Maybe I am the only one but maybe not
Do you ever talk to yourself?

Nelliemoser Thu 15-Sept-16 13:59:57

I talk to myself too much. As Anno has said I use it a lot to remind myself. It is often lists of things to do or find etc.

As my mum used to say. It's the only way to get an intelligent conversation.

Oh dear, not only do I know what nutty slack looks like, I found myself yesterday with DGS3 peering into our old coal cellar and baffling him completely by explaining that the hatch in the corner was where the coalman used to tip the sacks in....

My granda, now, was head horsekeeper at t'local pit and used to be in charge of all the pit ponies.

Some days I feel about 110.

Ana Sat 10-Sept-16 22:53:08

I do know what a bag of nutty slack looks like! My grandparents used to have one delivered every week by the coalman, as well as the ordinary coal.

Slack was small bits and pieces and they used it to keep the fire in overnight.

Actually, my Dad used to talk to himself and I find myself turning into him ! For example, I'm walking along the road, passing some young lads wearing hoodies and looking a bit dodgy, under my breath I say
"Bet they're up to no good"
I see a lady on a bike with quite a large backside - I say
"Look at that - like a bag of nutty slack"
I doubt anyone knows what a bag of nutty slack looks like, including me but my Dad's voice comes out of my mouth before I can shut up.
It will get me into trouble one day.

Mumsy Sat 10-Sept-16 18:17:19

All the time its the only time I get a sensible reply! grin

gulligranny Sat 10-Sept-16 17:53:50

Like others, yes all the time. I rehearse what I'll say in phone calls, etc. and generally remind myself of things that need to be done.

I sing to myself too, which is more worrying. Doing my supermarket shop recently I was approached by a lady who said that she played piano for a local choir and had I thought about joining? (I know the choir concerned). When I said no she told me that at least I sang in tune, not like some choir members!

I talk to myself that way no one argues with me sometimes when asking gchildren to do something they don't want to do then I usually say wall are you listening daft or what??

BlueBelle Sat 10-Sept-16 16:30:05

Crafty cat you may have hit the nail on the head I m an only child too, I used to play games, my left side against my right side and keep a tally of the points each side got.

You guys that said yes but not out loud sorry but talking in your head doesn't count that's called thinking

Dharmacat Sat 10-Sept-16 16:03:15

- just think aloud

Dharmacat Sat 10-Sept-16 16:02:36

No, don't talk to myself - just thinki aloud! The cat appreciates it as she perceives it as attention and often "answers" back with her own thoughts.

Do, of course, speak to plants in the house and garden generally to threaten them to do what they should and when - or else .... the unmentionable compost heap.

Sue162 Sat 10-Sept-16 14:34:17

Craftycat makes an interesting point - I am an only child and have always talked to myself. My father used to have long conversations in his workshop with a chap called "Bill", who was apparently an engineer (like himself!) When she was very small, my DD once asked me "does everything talk, Mummy"? We were having a conversation with a lamp post at the time......... grin

Legs55 Sat 10-Sept-16 13:30:25

love that PRINTMISS, have often thought some-one was talking to themselves when it's "hands free" mobile!!

I talk to my self, tv (especially watching quiz shows), plants & of course my lovely cat - as usual he only listens when he wants to. Definately comes with living on your own grin

Direne3 Sat 10-Sept-16 13:26:25

I once worked with a very clever accountant who had immense patience with malfunctioning office equipment. She maintained that the best way to deal with inanimate objects was to talk to the offenders 'calmly but firmly' - seemed to work every time.
Note to self; must try and stop saying thank you to parking machines etc. when they issue my ticket.

moobox Sat 10-Sept-16 12:48:57

Of course. I can be lying in bed saying what I am about to have for breakfast. I think it helps me get up, lol.

moxeyns Sat 10-Sept-16 12:06:38

I had myself laughing out loud twice this morning hmm

mbody Sat 10-Sept-16 11:54:50

Absolutely. Only time I hear sense!!

albertina Sat 10-Sept-16 11:08:07

All the time. If caught when out and about I always make a joke of it.

Nelliemaggs Sat 10-Sept-16 11:02:49

At home and in the car all the time. I have 'shall I shan't I?' conversations which get quite intense with bad language included. No one to hear me though I have muttered to myself in the supermarket and hoped no one was close enough to hear.

Tudorrose Sat 10-Sept-16 11:00:44

It's the only way I'm sure of a sensible conversation

annodomini Sat 10-Sept-16 10:58:11

If I say something aloud, for example, 'my keys are on the table', I seem more likely to remember it. Well, that's my excuse.

Tegan Sat 10-Sept-16 10:42:03

Quite often I'll be deep in thought, someone will say something to me and I'll ask them 'was I talking to myself?' blush Thus far the answer has been 'no' [phew] but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

BRedhead59 Sat 10-Sept-16 10:39:20

In the supermarket " mmmmm that looks nice" or "I don't need any of that goodness that's expensive" and "I'll have two of those" etc etc I know people can hear me but I don't care.
When I'm walking the dog in the fields I discuss the issues of the day with myself and when I'm doing housework and driving and cooking and ... In fact I talk to myself all the time!!

henetha Sat 10-Sept-16 10:20:12

I talk to Wiggy a lot. (my pet cockatiel). That's my excuse! We have quite long conversations.

Craftycat Sat 10-Sept-16 10:17:05

All the time- I always have done. I think it is because I was an only child. I rabbit away all day long to myself ( & the radio- I talk to that too) The cats ignore me & our old dog used to look sort of interested for a while & then drop off.
I do it in company too. I apologised at a craft group the other week & they said- oh it's OK- we're used to you & we just ignore you if it isn't aimed at us.
It's part my my unique charm (??)
