Wonderful Cities of the World

I really loved Bruges and Prague. Nearer to home Leeds, York and my home town - London!!

What about the lovely little city of Wells no one has mentioned?

Other than that - Florence, Amsterdam, Milan, Edinburgh, York, Chester, Quebec, Paris, Budapest and so many others.

Sydney would top my list for just astonishing natural beauty. Córdoba is excellent, far better than Granada or Seville.

Paris and Rome but we've just had an amazing weekend in Seville which I highly recommend.

Agree about Valencia (DS and DGS's live there). San Francisco, Sydney, Auckland and Vancouver are all places I think I could live. I shall endeavour to visit places nearer to home when I can no longer do long haul !

I love cities too, London, New York and Manchester.

Savannah is a bit special. The beautiful squares and houses nearly disappeared in the 50s at the hands of developers but most were rescued and preserved thanks to the efforts of a small group of people who managed to prevent it.

Rome's the favourite for me! Also Montreal and London too.

I've been to a number of cities that I loved but Rome was always my favourite, that is, until I went to Istanbul, without a doubt my favourite city now.

Moving over to the Western Hemisphere! I'm currently in Boston, MA, having been visiting family in Toronto. Both busy vibrant cities in very different ways. Off now to Atlanta, Georgia and then Savannah and Charlestown. I'll need to report back on those.

I love Lisbon (OK family is there but it's a gorgeous city!). Boat trip on the river is a must! jinglbellsfrocks - hope you enjoy Manchester. I love the Christmas markets there, but can get very crowded, especially at weekends. If you can get to Salford Quays I'd recommend it in a flash! That's my favourite place for shopping, theatre and food.

I love Copenhagen and can find (almost) anywhere I want to there, and used to cycle around endlessly while the husband was working. Weirdly I wouldn't contemplate cycling in Amsterdam!

Second best city in the world for me must be Sydney ... absolutely perfect and thinking about it now makes me want to go back.

I had a lovely ice cream sundae at Schonbrunn. The view is very nice.

I did like the old big wheel at the Prater. Very Third Man.

I lived in Amsterdam very many years ago, and it is still very special for me. However, Istanbul (such a wonderful maritime city), Seville (with its beautiful Alcazar), Venice, Paris, Berlin (constantly changing), Marrakech and Fez (watching really skilful craftsmen working with their basic tools and materials to produce stunning designs), and not forgetting my native London!

I loved Amsterdam, too. We stayed in the Jordaan in a typical Dutch canal house as my future DIL was working there. I only lived in fear of stepping outside the door and being run over by a thousand bicycles!

Rome + Amalfi Coast, Athens, Madrid, Valencia (Barcelona was OK), Paris, Edinburgh, London, Stavanger in Norway, Berlin (before unification was fascinating, both sides), Munich, Zurich and...

I absolutely loved Vienna and visited in the 1980s when still single. I went to the Stadtpark and they had a Strauss-like orchestra playing waltzes in the bandstand. I was seated next to some young men at the terrace cafe, and was asked to dance many times. Thank goodness for childhood ballroom lessons in the 1960s!

Also the Schoenbrunn Palace (very much like Blenheim), outside of city, was great. The Hapsburg one in the centre was good but not as grand. Oh, and the pastries, konditorei, sacher torte. Yum! Then I went on to Salzburg, more touristy but still nice with dramatic scenery.

Back in the US, Boston is my favourite big city, but am very partial to the Maine coast.

Yes, forgot Birmingham. I love that city. A hidden gem.

We love Chicago!

During my working life I visited many cities, but for interest it's had to beat Chester and Edinburgh, only had a short visit to Edinburgh, hope to visit again. There are so many UK towns that warrant a short visit, got a lot more to go yet.

Glasgow, Venice and Hong Kong

Rome because it is so fascinating and so easy to get around, Madrid for art galleries and history, and Miami!

Kraków, Saigon, Bruges, and, closer to home, Durham and Newcastle.

Nice, Barcelona, Rio, Delhi, Lagos (interesting but scary) Amsterdam, Munich

At home, Oxford, London, Glasgow, Bristol, Bath

Venice is my favourite but I also love Seville and Madrid. Oh and New York. Also my home city, Birmingham

When I was younger I made a list of cities I would like to visit, and amazingly I have been lucky enough to visit nearly all of them. Favourites are Paris, Venice, Sydney and San Francisco.
I also love Plymouth as I was born there. And I love visiting London.

Seville for me. The old city has a surprise round every corner. The sight of the Cathedral tower (which started life as a minaret) floodlit against a deep blue night sky lives in my memory. There are musicians playing Sevillanas on the streets. The Alcazar and its grounds are beautiful - we were admitted free on a Sunday. The one time it rained, we found a cosy bar with tapas and lots of men watching a grand prix!
If you cross the river to Triana, there's a plethora of pottery shops - I had to drag my sister out of them!
