Sounds like a good idea granny23. Provided the GP has all the reports. That can take ages. Poor OP. sad

Sounds like a case of 'too many cooks'. I have found in similar situations that the best person to sort it all out is your GP, who should have reports from all the specialists you have seen, whereas they may not report to each other. Your GP can make emergency referrals for scans, XRays, etc. if necessary.

Please be careful, if you go for a private consultation and the surgeon wants your joint xrayed, you would have to pay for that and it would cost around £200 on top of the consultation fee which differs depending on what part of the country you live.

I also had problems but nothing like yours and I was referred to a chronic pain consultant, NHS who may be able to help you.

Your pain sounds horrendous. Any possibility you can raid the piggy bank and go private to the consultant you trust.

I should be interested to know the name of the marvel drug which has cured your osteoporosis. Have not yet got to the top man for a diagnosis and medication, still on co cocodamol. Bed is such a relief.

MRI scans for diagnosis were on a waiting list of 12 weeks , then interpretation a similar amount. I went private.

Oh dear what an anguished post. So sorry. Agree with the poster who suggested you pay for a one off consultation with the other consultant, with whom you sounded confident. ????????

Would the " top" consultant see you as a private patient? Then you might feel happier with his/ her opinion. I'd have the diagnostic injection to be honest as it made it clear to me that I needed a hip done not a knee.

Aw Phoebe, I am so sorry to hear about your miserable situation. I have no useful suggestions to make, but wanted to send you flowers and gentle hugs

I don't know what to do. 15 months ago I had a total knee replacement. I had been told to put it off as long as possible, but it finally got so bad that I had to have it done. I had my pre-op day and then had to wait so long for a date for the op that the three months following the pre-op day had almost elapsed and I would have had to have another one. I had always seen the top consultant in the hospital and was very happy with him, but it was suggested to me that if another consultant did the op, I wouldn't have to start all over again with another pre-op day, so I agreed for the op to be done by another consultant. From day 1 after the op I knew things weren't right and I told the consultant so on my first appointment after the op. I had sever groin pain on the same side as the knee replacement and something told me that this wasn't right. I was told it was early days and to wait and things should improve. That was the only time I saw the consultant following the op. Since then I have had several more follow-ups and mentioned the groin pain and the pain which has now developed in the other knee because I am walking in a way which puts a strain on it - this knee was fine before. It was suggested that the groin pain might be referred pain from my hip and that maybe I should have an injection in my groin which, if the pain went away, would show that it was referred pain from my hip. I knew that my hip was fine as I had asked another consultant, whom I see regularly for osteoporosis, (which, I am glad to say has now been cured by a wonder drug), to have a look at my hip x-ray and she said it looked perfectly fine to her. Trouble was, I couldn't really tell the knee doctor that she had said this! Two days ago, after the groin pain had been getting progressively worse, I stood up and my knee just seized up completely. I got my GP to refer me to the hospital yesterday and saw two more doctors I hadn't seen before who told me to rest with my foot up and have a scan in 5 weeks time! This scan was supposed to have been done last week on my previous visit but for some reason, it wasn't. I am in quite severe pain and can barely walk, but, the groin pain has gone! I now have a non-functioning leg and am in pain and my other knee feels as if it is going to collapse too, due to the strain it is under. I do have a life and I can't sit round with my foot up for five weeks just for the scan and then more time to have the results looked at. I don't know what else I can do. Sorry for such a long post, but if anyone has any ideas, I would be very glad! I just don't seem to be any closer to getting it sorted out in spite of all my visits to the hospital.
