There was one about a fish that 'swam and swam right over the dam'. No idea what its real song title was though.
The 'Ugly Duckling' was lovely too. Danny Kay sang it I thought? Also Burl Ives 'Ugly Bugs Ball' was great fun.

Sparky used to give me the creeps! I loved the Laughing Policeman, and The Runaway Train. Does anyone remember Petula Clark`s Little Blue Man? I felt so sorry for him at the end of the song.

Another person here who was scared of Sparky but also fascinated at the same time .

I loved it.

Sparky was a piano that spoke in piano sounds . Actually I liked it and was scared if it at the same time . I particularly remember a line, I think
It was " Oh no you don't "
And it creeped me out !

Plus one, jingl! Ours was a large cream coloured jobbie with one single dial, but the places you could tune into were a geography lesson in themselves. I as constantly asking "Dad, where's ....... ?" He mostly knew, even the obscure ones.

I remember hearing it often on Children's Choice on Saturday morning radio. The big old radio we had that was so difficult to tune, and had accumulators which we took to the bike shop (?!) every week to get charged up.

I have a CD of original recordings from Children's Favourites. GS loved The Runaway Train, The Typewriter, and Tubby the Tuba. My favourite is Coronation Scot. Unfortunately, Sparky's Magic Piano isn't on it.

Loved the Duck Song, Swanny!

My DGS and I have discovered some new children's songs on YouTube. Mostly american of course (I find the accents annoying and often have to interpret them for DGS) but we have a particular favourite here - The Duck Song

I loved those songs when I was a child so I bought the CD to play to the GC, they pulled their faces especially at Nellie the elephant and asked me to play ABBA instead. I suppose as far as they were concerned that was old fashioned music.

I loved Sparky and also listened to Childrens favourites on Saturday mornings, The Runaway Train was my favourite and of course Mummy, give me a Drink of Water we all used to laugh like drains at that one...

If I remember correctly, Sparky's Magic Piano was in two parts, usually played on consecutive weeks. Part one I enjoyed but the second part always frightened me. I knew it was because Sparky abused the magic but the thought of me not being able to control what was happening to me was terrifying

I loved Uncle Mac's Children's Favourites. My sisters and I listened faithfully every Saturday morning. I looked forward to hearing all the old favourites, The Emperor's New Clothes was one of mine, as was The Ugly Duckling and The Railway Came Through The Middle if the House. I loved 'Sparky's Magic Piano'. I faithfully listened to Uncle Mac each week waiting for him to play a song for me. He never did. I didn't know your Mum had to write in to make a request. My rotten Mum must have seen me listening out for my name but never wrote in.

Yes, I remember it. It was one of the regulars on the Archie Andrews radio programme in the 1940s/50s.. Children don't have their own music these days, they listen to the current pop songs.

I am not sure glammanana, this is just a cd, which I honestly do not remember buying, but it must have been for the grand-children, because cds were unknown when my children were young, although as I said, we did have the record for them. The cd we have also contains Rusty in Orchestraville, Sparky's Magic Echo, Flick the little Fire
Engine. Of course when the original record was made it was quite a
novelty with the mixture of sounds, easily available now with modern technology, but not so in the past.
