Wimpy holiday

I had a seven day safari including Treetops and didn't see any actual kills. We went the year be for the latest unrest. Not sure I'd go there now but there are other countries in Africa which are more stable and do safaris. We were in a group of 6 with our own driver/guide. I'm so glad I went!

If you make your preferances known, I'm sure you could arrange a holiday in Kenya without going on safari,mid that's not your thing. Beautiful beach lodges, elephant orphanages, giraffe centres, museums etc. all possible, whilst seeing the wonderful scenery.

Ah...gender in a bun!! That's a whole memory from my youth , yes Wimpys still exist and the one at Lakeside near the Dartford Tunnel does a cracking breakfast , buy one get one in free !! Highly recommend !

Hi badenkate, yes they do, although there are not as many now. I only know because my DD and SIL still enjoy them, not because I frequent them now, but oh happy memories!

Do Wimpy bars still exist? We were around Grantham a couple of weekends ago and were amazed to see several Little Chefs which we thought had completely disappeared!

I was expecting this thread to be about Wimpy burger bars and visiting as many as possible in a holiday period Couldn't be more wrong, it's much more exciting and interesting, although like you, I wouldn't want to see the actual kills. Afraid I can't help with advice, hope that the more knowledgeable among us can help you achieve this great holiday.

For goodness sake! All I said was that I would like to see Kenya because I had read what a beautiful country it was but that I, personally, did not care to watch one animal killing another animal. I can't see why that then becomes a lecture on the life chain of animals, which I am finding somewhat insulting. I said at the beginning that I was wimpy but that is how I am and I accept it. My dog kills rabbits - I don't like it. I hate seeing cats play with their prey. And no, I'm not a vegetarian and I do realise that that is very inconsistent.

Correction - I several times saw my cats disposing of a rat. Would that count as a kill?

In five years in Kenya, I never actually saw a kill, though often enough saw lions feeding on the results. But that's how nature 'red in tooth and claw' works. Lions, cheetahs and leopards don't have slaughterhouses to do their work for them.

Of course Nina, that goes without saying. I'm well aware of how life works. All I'm asking is if anyone has had a holiday in that area without watching animals being killed - however natural it may be. Thanks Nana for the suggestions - I'm not too sure of how stable it is there either but it does sound wonderful.

I don't know but I would assume you would only see animals doing what is necessary for the life of the current generation and any young they have if you actually took a safari trip. Plenty of beautiful things to see nearer to towns I'm sure

We went several years ago and have a huge photo on our wall now of the elephants in front of Kilimanjaro in the background . It was amazing. Best trip ever.

We arranged our own safari on recommendations from friends , so it was just the three of us. We did 7 nights at Diane Beach , then 5 nights safari then 4 nights back at the beach.

We only came close once to a kill when we did a dawn safari looking specifically for lions. It was fascinating to watch them stalk a wildebeest , and we didn't stay for the kill as we had our youngest daughter with us and she feels like you.

I have fabulous memories and photos .

My only concern currently is general unrest in the region or I might be tempted to go again. It's certainly an experience .
