I also got a Dansette red and cream, second hand and one LP. It was The Black and White Minstrels!!! It wasn't long before I'd a few Billy Fury and Elvis.
Worst preside was a new school blazer.

I can sympathise with GN-ers here!

My darling husband thought it hysterically funny to give me, for our 30th wedding anniversary (which, if you don't know, is 'Pearl') a bag of....... pearl barley. Ho hum.

I was not amused.

Two best presents: the first, aged 14 or 15 was a red and cream Dansette record player. I was ecstatic with joy.

The other, that every year my daughters present me with a photo book of shots of the family through the last year.

It gives me enormous pleasure and is a wonderful way of seeing how the grandchildren change and grow through the years.

The worst present ever was for my 50th birthday. My ex led me blindfolded, upstairs to the bathroom, and when he whipped off the blindfold, lo and behold! there was a handrail attached to the wall next to the bath for me to haul myself in and out with (at that time I was very sprightly and didn't need one) I begrudgingly suppose it's useful now.

Best present? When I was around 10yrs old I was given a bottle of hair conditioner and shampoo (called Two-Step). I felt so grown up having my own shampoo - especially as my hair was usually washed with LifeBouy soap.

DMIL used to buy me waist slips and yes, American Tan tights, always XXL (I was an 8 stone waif in those days!). And Ferrero Rocher, my least favourite chocolates (though I managed to force them down grin). We always got on well, so I don't think it was anything personal, she was just a bit unobservant!

I've been very lucky and had some lovely presents over the years. But my favourite was the puppy hiding, trembling, under the kitchen table on Christmas morning when I was 6. We had a pub and my dad had driven a drunk home on Christmas Eve, saw that he had a poor, skinny, badly-treated little pup and bought it off him for the price of a pint. We were best friends for years smile

How sad, Charleygirl! sad

The worst present I received was a pack of 12 pairs of American Tan tights from my ex-MIL.

I think the best was (surprisingly) from my ex-husband, an ankle-length thin cotton dressing gown from M&S which I still wear on occasion. Must be about 35 years old now...

Charleygirl that is so very sad.

If I ever win the lottery, I will make it my mission to make sure you get something"nice"

Not quite sure what though.........confused

Every Christmas my ex mother in law used to give me something for the kitchen. I had my own kitchen stuff before I got married, as did my ex and when my parents died, I inherited the contents from their kitchen so I never did need anything. She gave us a teasmade for a wedding present- I do not drink tea!

I cannot think of anything nice I ever received.

The worst was when DH bought me a skirt not only was it hideous, but it was 2 sizes too big !!!
The best was a transistor radio for christmas when I was 14 I had been wanting one for ages I was thrilled.

My favourite was my wheelbarrow! He kept buying me silver jewellery, I don't like silver. Just buy me a gadget! Or a new garden fork!

GandTea Sun 14-Aug-16 21:37:13

You ladies are just so ungrateful. Mrs. P moaned about her vac cleaner for months, then got testy when I bought her a new one for her birthday.

I'd be very happy with some industrial gloves .

Oh heavens, I have posted SO many times about presents from Mr P that most members could probably tell it for me!

mumofmadboys Sun 14-Aug-16 21:25:49

Oh Greyduster your description of the yellow nightie made me laugh. DH once bought me a pack of pants from M and S including red tartan ones!! They went back!

My worst present was the washing up bowl I received one Christmas from my brother -in - law. My best presents are the annual school/nursery photos of my grandchildren, and the personalised calendar my daughter makes me each year filled with family photos.

I think possibly the best present I have had and which has given me so much on going enjoyment is my iPad. I can learn something new every day. The worst is possibly a very large wooden pig. It is kneeling (or whatever pigs do) and has its bum in the air. I have never known quite what to do with it, I actually use it as a door stop. I just don't know why she bought it I am not really into pigs, I have to keep it out on show as the giver comes to the house regularly.

Worst present one Christmas from DH, an electric toothbrush.

Best present a tablet (computer type tablet, not a pill) ?

Greyduster Sun 14-Aug-16 21:01:04

The worst present I ever got from DH was a diaphanous, acid yellow shortie nightie trimmed with black lace. It was hideous beyond the meaning of the word. I eventually 'lost" it down the back of the immersion heater. I have two best presents. One was a small fine bone china pin dish that DS got me from a bric a brac stall for a Mother's Day present when he was about nine; I still have it forty years later. The other was a day's fly fishing tuition DH got me as a birthday present which started in me a passion I will never lose.

What are the best and the worst presents you have ever been given? ( Not counting children, grandchildren etc.) My worst present EVER was from DH one Christmas. I opened the parcel to reveal a pair of industrial grade rubber gloves plus two scart leads. I wept and subsequently told him that I'd rather he didn't get me anything in future. My best present was from DD, a little silver thimble inlaid with mother of pearl. Sadly it has vanished---I think it must have been taken by the thief who broke in several years ago.
