Soop's Friendly Kitcheners and pets...

Good things to look forward to Daphne. The rain dance is scheduled for later Charleyfgirl, hanging my head in shame that yesterday's efforts came to nothing. Maybe the might of GN could do better? .

The forecast for today is scattered showers. Do you think some may scatter in my direction? It looks as though it may rain but that has happened countless times before. My plants do not take kindly to tap water.

A nice day here now after a dull start so I thought I would check in.
A visit from family sounds good Daphne like many others I so miss those early days of my GC. They are wonderful company as they grow older and my GD has been a great help to us these last weeks but their early days are special.
I am now 21 days post op and doing ok. I get about well on one crutch but still need pain relief now and then especially before my excersises which are still hard.
H is very hard work but I am putting myself first and he has to deal with it, he is not at all happy but tough. We are on our own this weekend but my S got easy prepared meals for us and I can cope well as long as I do not stand for long. I am so pleased it is all behind me and hope everyone else does as well when the time comes for them to have their knees, "innards" etc done.

You sound to have made wonderful progress ann, good to hear you are taking care of yourself, it won't be too long before mobility is easier. I know its easy for me to say but try to be patient, don't undo all the good work that your surgeon and you have put in. Hope there can be a little treat on the horizon for you.

Ann I am delighted to hear that you are putting yourself first for a change. To be honest you do not have much choice, having been there and got the T shirt. It will get easier and 3 weeks is nothing- you will still be tired doing little for many more.

cornergran your rain dance was a little help, there were a few drops, enough for me to notice on the window, but the sun is now out. Maybe a repeat performance after lunch or a coffee please?

Been a warm weekend thus far , I'm hoping for a quick storm but looking out of the window it seems unlikely !

Laura certainly was very pleased with her pencil case Charley. She starts Year 5 I think this year so laptops are long way off. I'm hoping she learns to use a pen and pencil first as sometimes her writing is a little like a spider doing a tango across her page .

Oldgoat Oscar is looking splendid. My advice for his current reluctance, can you find a bench on a busy-ish road. Just take 10 mins sitting there ...a few treats . Lots of encouragement. Do it for a little longer each day until you can sit for 15 mins with no real interest shown in the traffic from young Oscar. He's going to be a beauty.

Grampy will be popping round for a fish dinner * Charley* its his favourite - any kind. I am not a fan so he says we never have it often enough.

Her mummy's purchase Corner ..its a designer pencil case and I could not be tempted to splash out. I did however purchase scented erasers, a pencil sharpener, matching lunch box and drinks bottle ! Well she is my princess

Sorry to hear of your friends loss Daphne. Always sad to lose your best friend and our pets so often fulfil that place in our lives.

We have the pleasure of DD2 and Masters Jackson and Cooper this afternoon for some garden play and a bbq !

NanandGrampy Grampy is welcome here anytime for a fish dinner. I love fish, being so used to really fresh fish having been brought up on the east coast of Scotland.

I also have a decent selection of wine for Grampy to choose from, I managed nearly 3 glasses yesterday evening with the sea bass and it will be a repeat performance this evening.

Fish is on the menu tomorrow evening also but I have forgotten what I bought. It is breaded scallops for a late lunch/nibble today. The remains of yesterday,they were cooked to perfection and delicious. I do not normally have fish dish after fish dish but living on my own with a lodger I can please myself.

There was a little rain earlier but again not enough to make a difference.

Jackson and Cooper will have a lovely time playing outdoors- I hope that the sun shines for them.

I agree, Laura's handwriting must improve- she cannot go through life hitting keys on a computer or whatever. Occasionally one has to put pen to paper.

After driving through so much torrential rain, we arrive home to find the garden dryer than ever --- sprinkler going now. Home for a couple of weeks now, back to sorting our garden.

Wobblbits I trust that you awoke feeling fully refreshed. Driving through a deluge on a motorway is a very stressful experience.

Daphne Losing a pet is heart breaking. Gertie will have enjoyed a good life. Knowing that fact is some small consolation.
On a much happier note...good things to look forward to. Plenty of baby pics, if you get a moment inbetween cuddles.

annsixty Thank you for your update. You are doing extremely well. It's good to hear that your husband, 'though difficult, is learning to toe the line. Please keep taking the pain killers (when you need to), they will enable you to relax and mend that much quicker.

NanaandGrampy I would love to join you in the garden play. Mind you, I'd possibly prefer to sit in the shade, with a cool drink, and watch the antics that are sure to be entertaining.

MacSporran called me to look through the window earlier today. A handsome mink was sniffing around the cat cabin. It disappeared before we could photograph it. Now, of course, MacS is fearful that the said intruder may attack Rory or Bracken. If you remember, some long time ago, Rory arrived home in a very distressed state. He needed antibiotics for bite injuries. He was drenched and had been in the burn. We thought that he'd met the otter.

In case anyone wondered where the name Wobblybits came from, no!, tough, I'm going to tell you anyway.

I used to help out on a community bus for the elderly (yes even older than me). One of our ladies lived down an unmade road that had more pothole than road, each time we went down there, the cry went up "Hang on to your wobblybits". I seem to acquire more wobblybits each year.

Daphne so sorry to hear of the little greyhound passing. We have two greyhounds that are getting older that we love very much. It's very hard when you loose them.

soop that is very worrying that a mink is on the prowl. I have been around GN long enough to remember the state that Rory was in when he arrived home having been mauled. It was not a cheap veterinary journey for you either.

Do you think that Bracken would sleep indoors? Hopefully Rory will stay very close to *MacSorran's trouser legs.

Wobblybits I know the feeling.

millymouge We had a cat named Hamish, when we lived in Cornwall. The morning we called at the vet and were told that it was kinder to have him put to sleep, is etched forever in my memory. I do not know how I managed to drive on to work on that occasion. The thought of it still makes me weepy.
MacSporran didn't want another cat. Not because he doesn't care them but because he finds it so upsetting when the cat dies.

We've done another couple hours of garden tidying. It is very warm right now in Kintyre. Hardly a whisper of wind. There may well be a colourful, Photo-Me sunset later this evening.

I hope that every Granspal has a pleasant evening. Especially those of you with health issues to deal with.

Charleyg our messages crossed. MacSporran wouldn't want a mink up his trouser leg. They can be vicious. MacS would dance a jig, that's for sure.
As for Bracken, she's a feisty girl. She did wander into the entrance of the bedroom whilst we were enjoying a ...Rory was being cuddled by MacSporran. She stood and stared. Then she had a good wash and sauntered away into the garden. Don't say what I think you are about to say...

So sorry to hear about Gertie. We had to have our greyhound Heidi put to sleep just short of her 15th birthday, we`d had her since she was 2 months old, and it was horrible.
Back to a day of fine weather again, Tesco reopened this morning, but had to evacuate 100s of customers yesterday. All the initial reports said that the roof had collapsed under the weight of water, but it was still intact, the water had accumulated so much that it just came through the ceiling like a massive waterfall!

Daphne, so sorry to hear about Gertie. We get so attached to our pets, they ask nothing of us and give so much. Never had a dog, but our last cat of 18 years died in my arms, still remember her with affection and miss her on my lap. Would love another cat, but while we have to travel to look after GC, it is not practical.

DaphneB, I'm so sad for your friend, feeling bereft. No matter how often it happens, you can't get used to losing a much loved pet. I'd love to have another cat, but live on an increasingly busy road and often take off for a weekend with family.

Daphne That is sad for both of you.

Daphne so sorry for you and your friend. We have lost 3 dogs. 2 sadly had to be put to sleep as they had difficulty breathing and no quality of life but we sadly lost our smallest one (tiny but with the heart of a lion) with a brain tumour. . To know they had a good life and were so loved helps.

ann glad you are looking after yourself and feeling better.

Soop I hope Rory and Bracken keep themselves well away from any mink. Rory will be safe sitting on MacSporran's lap (I'm sure there is space there for Bracken too)

I am so sorry for you and your friend, Daphne. It's one of the hardest things, losing an animal. Also, the kindest thing we can do for them if they're suffering. Wishing you comfort x
