Local paper looking for donations towards £20k vets bills. . . .

In our local paper there is the story of a nine year old dog found abandoned.
It had a tumour and is paralysed in its rear end.
They are appealing for £20k for its physio.
AIBU?
Why would anyone consider spending this vast sum on a dog which-forgive me-has obviously had its day?

Sometimes crowdfunding can be a force for good and donors want to help in a crisis and donate or fundraise because they do want to help someone in need.

However, not all causes are worthy and the one in the OP is not.
