Sometimes crowdfunding can be a force for good and donors want to help in a crisis and donate or fundraise because they do want to help someone in need.

However, not all causes are worthy and the one in the OP is not.

How cruel to keep an animal alive when it's suffering. One of our cats developed a massive tumour, picked up by x-ray, and even though he wasn't in pain at that stage our vet advised having him put to sleep before he did, as it would have been sudden and agonising. Not an easy decision for us, but kinder for him. If a charity is behind this it's not one I would want to support.

I have a neighbour who works for a major dog charity. Recently she was caring for a rather elderly dog at home that could barely walk, was breathless and appeared exhausted. She walked it up and down outside my house every day and the poor thing was getting weaker and weaker. He didn't seem happy, didn't wag his tale or hold his head up. Eventually the dog disappeared but we did have to question why it was looking as though it was suffering. If it was our dog we would have asked the vet to give him a painless and peaceful end- perhaps that's not how people think now.

Anyone can start a crowdfund, its just a posh way of begging! I have looked at the site in question and some of the requests for money are quite bizzare?!

No not acceptable. It has a tumour and is partially paralysed. My immediate thought is could this be a scam.

The dog charity has lost the plot. They should consider less costly measures which would improve the lives of more dogs.

Hello Obieone-it was the dog rescue charity it seems. Who feel that after intensive treatment this poor dog can be rehomed!

I feel animals should live as natural life as possible that's does not mean breeding faults into them, dressing them up, making them walk on the back feet for our amusement or keeping them alive when it s clear their time is up Disgraceful we have also had go funding for people's dogs ,.... May sound harsh but don't have animals or children that you can't afford

JessM and Katek - you've said it for me. I am a massive dog lover - and I truly feel some people have totally lost the plot. Poor animals- let them go quickly and painlessly.

Sometimes Crowdfunding can be an excellent thing but not in this case, or for the funeral expenses and its misuse would put people off giving to a worthwhile cause.

Ridiculous sentimentality. Put the dog down and end it's suffering without delay.

Crowd funding indicates the possibility of a return of some sort. This is just money raising

There was a similar story here recently, people crowdfunding to pay for expensive heart operations for their dog. Don't take on responsibilities if you can't afford the cost, I'd say.

I'm afraid I took a bit of a dim view of that, likewise of a family of someone I 'know' on an internet chat room, who were crowdfunding for a relative's funeral. As far as I could see, they owned their own homes, had cars and the usual trappings of modern life so why would you ask strangers to fund a funeral? It seems very odd to me.

Also is it right to put an older dog through so much surgery?
