Lucky enough to be on Rhodes at the moment. Lovely & hot so everyone sun worshipping but WHY do so many older ladies still go topless on beach & round the pool. I am no prude & always went topless myself until gravity took over & then I invested in some lovely bikinis & later tankinis. I'm sitting here & in my immediate area there are 5 very elderly women - 70 plus ( all British)with their boobs on their stomachs. To be honest they look awful & I had to smile yesterday when I noticed a woman with 2 long white panels on her tummy caused by the shadow her boobs had made. They would look great with a nice tankini which you can pull up to get your tummy tanned. I don't I understand it. It's up to them of course & I'd defend any woman's right to wear what she wants but really they look awful. Maybe I've had too much sun!

Some people have all the luck with their neighbours

Well, apart from the fact that I have just pulled up in the car and had my 21 year old next door neighbour coming home, lifting his t shirt up and treating me to a good look at his six pack!
There's hope for us yet
Loose shirt de rigueur for me too, GandTea. But kind of rubylady to say what she did about men's bodies in general.
Forty plus years ago we were on holiday in Cornwall with our one year old . We clambered down to this lovely secluded cove and settled down with all the paraphernalia you have for a day at the beach, when we saw coming towards us from the sea a totally naked man ! He greeted us,had a chat about the weather and went and sat on his towel to sunbathe. My DH was all for leaving there and then, but I really couldn't be bothered and was very tempted to strip off for a swim too, but thought DH would probably go up in smoke! I have skinny dipped in secluded places years ago and loved the freedom of it . I got caught out though a few years ago swimming in our private pool in a very isolated place in Spain ,or so I thought . I was greeted by a group of walkers passing by ...
Back to the subject in hand -- boobs. They must be a sexual thing, I don't get excited by a topless man, envious perhaps if he has a good 6 pack. It's not only boobs, I find Women's backs very sexy, but not mens, and as for bums, what can I say
My daughter always goes topless in the warm weather. This will be around town, around the area where she lives, anywhere really, sometimes even getting admiring looks. I don't like it myself but I put up with it. As soon as I start feeling cold though, if I'm with her, she winds the hood back up again and we travel once again in roofed comfort. I hate convertibles.
We walked along the sea edge on Studland beach in Dorset when the children were small, not realising it was a naturist beach. Of course we soon did realise, and felt uncomfortable, fully dressed as we were. One thing that struck me was a lady sitting right by the water. She'd had a single mastectomy and was clearly happy with her body. I felt a lot of admiration for her.
Just a thought, what would they think of me,One needs all the help it can get,one missing.Do you think I would display that?No way,
We're all aware of the,I couldn't care less what you think,I'm doing it anyway, brigade,in all walks of life. But both men and women, sometimes some people are genuinely put out by it.As someone has said it could be a cultural thing,it is their country after all.For the few, pull up the ladder I'm ok,people here,it's called RESPECT.
GandTea Men's bodies look great, no matter whether they have man boobs or not. It's a body, it keeps you alive, being vital, celebrate it whatever it looks like.
We were in South Goa a few years ago staying at quite a good hotel. The guests tend not to go topless there. It would be too disrespectful to the lovely local people.
However, one lady who was probably in her sixties was sitting on the edge of the pool proudly showing off her boobs. I remarked to OH that they were too good to be real. Later we saw her lying on the beach and instead of sagging a bit to the side they were rigidly pointing to the sky. I found it quite funny.
JessM- never ever used the word 'disgusting' did I? Personally, and as in any discussion you are freely entitled to disagree- I think it is just inappropriate to force your boobs on others. I breastfed both of ours, and never minded doing so in public, but discreetly- using a thin shawl.
As said, most of the cultures where Brits go on holiday, be it the Med or North Africa, do have great respect for their older folk- and said older people are very modest in the way they dress, and wouldn't dream of being on a beach or pool topless.
Mumsy, I prefer to hide my man boobs under a lose shirt, boobs look wonderful on a woman, awful on a man.
I had never really heard of or paid much attention to the question of "body shaming". I see the definition on bodyshaming.org says it has to do with weight or size.
So re the OP wilmaknickersfit, I think is right. It's about personal likes and dislikes and the OP had a moan about one of her dislikes, that's all, not so much "body shaming".
I said the same thing on another thread about dressing too young. Wearing clothes that are too tight is bad enough when the person is slim, but on a larger person (like me) it just looks dreadful. It usually crosses my mind whether they think they look fine or just don't care what anyone else thinks.
Hot day today and looking around I realise that what offends my eyes isn't flesh, as such, but too tight clothing. The bulges that result are pretty grim, and it's not always on the overweight. Worst of all are too-tight jeans or shorts leading to a muffin top and, heaven help us, a sweaty bum-crack in full view from behind! Can't be unseen. At least unclothed bodies take up their own shape and usually look pretty good to me, rather in the way that an older face is often beautiful in its own way and reflects the character of the person.
wanna borrow a bikini top ONEphilrogers,
Even as a man, I rarely go topless these day (man boobs y'know!!)
It is also normal in some cultures for the men to walk around displaying their wedding tackle, but would we want to see that in public ?
I don't mind admitting that I like looking at women's boobs. It's just like looking at hairstyles. Some are nice to look at, some not so nice, but we all know what we do or don't like. Nothing wrong with that.

I think you are probably thinking rather narrowly about culture, aging and modesty. There are probably plenty of indigenous cultures in hot places where grandparents are honoured and bare breasts are the norm. Why would you think a grandmother's breasts were disgusting when they have helped to ensure the continuation of your tribe.
There are plenty of people who think breastfeeding should be done in private - part of the same "breasts are for decorative and entertainment purposes" mindset that is fostered by the mainstream media and the porn industry. Not to mention the plastic surgery industry. I looked at an issue of The Star once and it was full of breasts and they were almost identical silicon enhanced 36D or whatever) , page after page of them.
