soop A 48 mile round trip is no joke and if he is looking better overnight- wait and see I think.

Tara hates the carrier and the car because both lead to one of two places which she hates, the vet or a cattery.

cornergran your banana baby is certainly a lot of use now that he is older because rarely will he need to use a ladder so that is much safer for him.

I do not know about the rest of the country but it is sweltering in London- tomorrow will be hotter.

Glad to hear Rory made a good recovery on his own . Might have been a grass seed scratched the inside of his eye or lid and that caused the swelling. It could then just drop out on its own !! Clever boy

Our ragdoll Tobi hated the basket too but because when you pick up a ragdoll they hang limply, my daughter used to just tuck him under her arm and walk into the vets with him. He was totally unfazed by fellow visitors and used to hang draped over her arm for the entire visit purring loudly. At his finest he weighed just over 20 kgs and was a magnificent beast.

Charley its my own fault , I hate ironing and just let it pile up - it does mean we wear clothes that rarely see the light of day so some good comes out of it. All done now but I did nearly melty !!

We have whopper babies in our families , only one has come in below 10 lbs and they were all super chunky as babies. The midwife would reduce my youngest daughter to tears at DGS3s weigh ins telling her she must be feeding him badly for him to be so chunky. I knew that she fed him very well, all home made, all fruit and veg etc. So I kept saying = wait till he's on the move that will all drop off.

And so it did. He's now a tall, super slender bundle of energy who will still choose fruit over sweeties if offered.

I'm sure Daphne that the young man ( and your DD) will have benefitted from their time in Nanas care and he will have made that magic number and go from strength to strength.

I'm off to sit in the garden with a strawberry mivvi...... now that brings back memories !!

It is like a sauna here, hot and wet. The dogs only got a short walk as there were so many flies and my back hurts from the annual battle with weeds (they come up as soon as you turn your back).

Had a disturbed night. One of the dogs kept on running about so eventually I pushed OH out of bed to investigate. He came and got me up as he said there was a strange creature in the kitchen. It was making a chirping sound. It only took me a minute to discover the phone had been left off the charger and the battery was flat, causing it to chirp every 10 secs. Back on the charger and everyone was happy.

It is xtremely hot and muggy here. DH and I are exhausted as we have just bathed both dogs. They practically dried immediately, but we have had to go and have a sit down, a cup of tea and a rather nice cake (a real one) to recover. There is rather a large pile of ironing waiting to be done, but I think that will have to wait until this evening when it is cooler. Have just noticed that DH has fallen asleep, think I might join him

Don't feel bad about your lie-in Daphne,your body obviously knew that it could relax now and took the rest it needed. I woke at 6.0 am but then dozed off again until gone 9.30am and I have no such excuse.

It's a bit fresher here today which is nice as the very hot weather has been completely sapping my energy. Most afternoons have been spent with the sun shut out and the air-con on. I agree Nanaand they are ugly, noisy machines but a godsend this weather. We haven't struggled to get ours up two steps into the bedroom but last night I was wishing we had. With luck, next year we will have it built in.

The Health Visitor was the bane of DD's life when DGS was a baby. He was small and compact and although perfectly healthy was under the "right" percentages of weight for years. Head and shoulders below his best friend when they were fourteen. He's a streamlined 6'.3" now.

Only joking, I do iron sometimes but as little as possible.

I have been doing loads of washing, sat down for a rest and the next thing I knew I was asleep. I had problems getting to sleep last night because of the humidity, not helped by Tara wanting to sleep on my pillow so it was catch up time. She at least moved to the bottom of the bed and not where my feet usually lie.

I feel so sorry for builders working fairly close by, heavy work and they have not stopped.

NanaandGrampy Yes. Something may well have scratched Rory's eyelid. We're feeling much happier now that he can fully open the eye. He's behaving in a fashion that says...I'm very important. I'm also very clever. He's being waited on hand and foot. Both he and his daughter are lolling in the sunshine. By the way, I won't be discussing Tobi within earshot of Rory. He gets the hump when other cats are mentioned.

Wow! What a marvellous day - sunny - warm - cloudless sky - mirror-calm sea. Perfect in every way.

Tizliz I was certain that you were going to say that a bird was flying around your kitchen.

millymouge Real cake...now that's what I'd call a proper treat.

dustya I blame my mother and grandmother. They were both fanatics when it came to ironing. If something stayed still long enough, out came the iron. Nana started her working life as a maid in a very large, posh house. In her late 70's she retired from two jobs as a housekeeper. I cannot recall her ever being without work. She grew all her own vegetables. Never had a car but walked almost everywhere, often carrying bags of heavy shopping. She really was a "One off".

Charleyg I also find the humidity draining. I've been using a stiff brush over the bedroom carpet. The carpet is light coloured and I wish to goodness that we'd opted for something different. By the time I reached the final few inches, I was knackered.

I'm hoping that tonight's sunset will be interesting. If so, I shall feel compelled to photograph it. I shall share with you tomorrow.

Enjoy a proper summery evening. We on the west coast of Scotland, will experience a more comfortable night than many of our Granspals.

Galen, I wonder why Garry`s insurance won`t pay up? Many years ago we`d booked a weekend in Paris, a work trip, then a few days before we were due to go I saw on teletext that they`d gone bust, but we hadn`t been informed. I told the man in the offices at work who`d organised the trip, luckily he`d paid with his credit card rather than all the cash we`d all given him, and got all the money back, apart from the insurance. We looked at the website a few times last week, on Thursday night we`d narrowed it down to 3 hotels and planned to make our final decision and book on Friday. I`m so pleased we didn`t make our decision on Thursday!
Soop, I wish I had your enthusiasm for ironing. I currently have Mount Kilimanjaro staring at me, but can`t face it in this heat, but before long it`ll be Everest, so I really ought to get cracking on it!
So pleased to hear that Rory didn`t need the vet after all.

numberplease forget the ironing and enjoy the sunshine- it occurs so rarely. There are so many drizzly days when you could iron.

He is very comfortable perched on the work top surface.

I am a cold morsel and after a (hot) shower last night, thought that a light dressing gown over me in bed would be sufficient, Oh no, I woke up at 5.30am having had a good night's sleep to find my trusty 15 tog duvet over me.

It was even too hot for Tara, she had retired to another room after her cuddles.

I cannot remember the last time I was up so early with the washing machine on. What will I do when the weather becomes cold again?

Morning All !

Its a warm one here again so I suspect not much of anything except a little pottering will be going on here today !

That picture was my daughters kitchen Charlie the boy knew better than to jump on my work surfaces . For most of his life he was a house cat and didn't go outside but when he came to live with us we took him out in the garden. He never showed any inclination to leave the garden but was truly bewildered by the outside.

Our garden squirrel bested him on many occasions as Toby just didn't know what this intruder was up to. He would sit for hours watching the last spot he saw the squirrel - who in the meantime had run along the fence, sambaed across the garden behind Toby and was sitting on a plant pot digging up nuts !

He was a cracker Breeze , not a breed I knew much about until he came to live with us and I can honestly say a perfect pet for children. They don't bite, they don't scratch and positively like being picked up. We miss him still.

Well off for a coffee in the garden --Happy Days everyone !! x

Ha! I do love coming into our kitchen for catch up.

That cat, NanaandGrampy was magnificent. I've no idea how much Rory weighs. He's also a mighty big cat that lived rough in the forest for umpteen years. He was the master of a colony of feral cats. We have managed to trap three females that were spayed some time ago. Rory was de-flowered. Hence the colony possibly no longer exists. I should write the story of Rory. He's a characterful feline with a rich history. A survivor. A member of our family. Aww!

Galen What news of Gary's insurance claim? I'm so pleased that our number isn't having the same problem.

Charleyg I can hear your washing machine from here. No...it's the ferry on it's way to Islay.

breeze I'm a fan of Garfield. We have a number of annuals on the bookshelf. The creator of that cat had a brilliant imagination.

M, the lady in the Care Home was "scunnered" (Scots for fed up)...when I asked why, she said that she was sure the newest male resident had a relative that she, (M) was at school with. That would be over 85 years ago. She couldn't recall the relatives name. I suggested that she engage the new resident in a conversation and then he may be able to enlighten her. She muttered...'he doesn't know who he is...' I thought, not a lot of point in taking the matter further.
