Changing room mirrors

I was a size 10 once too and had two mini kilts, one green and one mauve. Polo jumper was de rigeur.
Think I remember Revone, Margsus. All those pushy small shops were near Marble Arch. Thank goodness nobody does that any more. Sometimes you're hard pushed to get help !

I would suggest that it's because you don't expect kilts to be short and you normally expect a pair of knobbly, hairy, Jock knees, rather than a pair of sexy legs that don't stop.

I wonder how many accidents have been caused by mini skirts.?

Whereas I love the sight of a man in a kilt, with his sporran swinging and his sgian-dhu just showing.

Must admit I didn't (don't) have knobbly hairy knees. They were fun those days and when mini kilts came into being the mini itself hadn't been out that long. Much nicer than a lot of today's youthful fashion I think. Ripped trousers in particular spring to mind .

Mini skirts, still turn heads today (or at least the one I saw in Maldon today did, white boots and all, very 70's )

I remember 1966, sweet 19, size 10, shocking pink mini-skirt, matching pink sling backs, Amerucan Tan tights and a white skinny-rib polo neck.

Anya. Those were happy, care free days. Spent all week looking forward to Friday/Saturday night at the Royal Ballroom in Tottenham. You must be the same age as Mrs P, we were engaged in 1966 and married the year after.

Was at Uni 65-68 G&T and yes, great care-free days indeed. Engaged in 68, married

Yes, we are planning it now, hoping to get all the family away together. As you say, where did the years go, we met in 1963, so been together 53 years (Mrs P was sweet 16)

I was puzzled reading this at first as I thought everyone ordered online, tried on, sat down depressed and reached for the gin, then packaged it up and returned it. I would have all my toenails pulled out, teeth extracted and be water boarded rather than stand in a changing room now. And anyway, if I did, there would be an 'experiment' (campaign more like) to have the mirrors uncovered and me covered up!

breeze, we are all different. I really do not like shopping online, although I do do it at times.

Trying to guess what the garment really looks like from pictures on models entirely unlike me standing or moving in silly poses. Ordering online and then when it arrives the colour is different the quality is atrocious and it doesn't fit anyway. Then I have to parcel it up to send back and trail five miles to my nearest town to return it to an agent or whatever.

I much prefer a couple of trips a year to a really good shopping town 20 miles away with a list of what I want, add a really nice lunch and a mooch around the antique and sewing shops, oh, and the listed buildings supplies emportium and it makes a really pleasant day/half day outing. I also deliberately shop in a town centre supermarket in my local small town, a weekly trip to which is usually a accompanied by a mooch around the rest of the town centre including a quick in and out of the clothes shops we have there.

Fat or slim, it has never bothered me to stand in front of a mirror, regardless of whether other peopl are around, they will also be a range of shapes and sizes. You are what you are, why shy away from it?

Monica, I am not knocking it, each to her own and you are obviously stylish and slim! and have never stood in the changing rooms in Top Shop with a skirt stuck half way up your thighs, won't go up, won't come down, trying to hang onto your knickers in case they get dragged off with it, whilst beautiful slim 17 year olds with washboard tummies snigger in the corner! . But seriously, whatever makes you happy and you're right, it's hit and miss with online shopping. It's been a godsend for me, for reasons I won't bore you with but I'm afraid I'm just not that confident to display myself in changing rooms anymore. Even when I was a lot younger I'd try to find the ones with the private cubicles because it's an awful feeling trying something on that looked good on the hanger, then finding 'you' ruined it by shoving yourself into it! All I can say is, thank the lord online shopping happened when I needed it.

breeze do not believe it. I have had all the things happen that you mention and when overweight, including a sales assistant ripping open the curtains of an indvidual cubicle, exposing me to everybody in the shop (and street) when she realised I was not going to buy the dress I had tried on.

It is not that these things don't happen, it is just I find the best way to react to them is with indifference, because actually people are so busy with their own dress experiences that they rarely notice.

I fully understand your concerns, we all have things we worry about, it is just this is one that doesn't bother me.

Do you notice what else is happening in a changing room? I don't.
