I always back in, except, as most people agree, in a supermarket car park to give me access to the boot.

I never reverse in to a parking space at the supermarket for the simple reason that if my car is back to back with another one, it's very difficult to access the boot to put my shopping bags in.

Well done Alea. Does anyone else remember a similar scenario in 'Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Café'? A great film.

I always reverse into spaces, just because my aunt always used to do and her reason was

Just in case I need to make a quick escape

From the tender age of 7 this has always stuck with me and assumed she must have had some criminal past as a get away driver that we never knew about grin

I'm saying nothing GandTea!

Reversing into a parking space is much the better option, apart form access to the trunk.

A car can be reversed into a space where road width is restricted more easily. Driving forward from the space is far safer as vision is not restricted by other parked cars. If you reverse out, you usually have to move a few feet out before you can see properly.

You would not attempt to drive into a small parallel parking space --- would you ?

BUT, as I am lazy and our Tesco car park has wide lanes , I drive in.
BUT, I have had two accidents reversing out (not my fault of course) and frightened a few passing pedestrians.

I've always wondered that as well Jane

M0nica Fri 01-Jul-16 07:50:51

Jane I nearly always back into parking spaces, anywhere. Getting out is so much easier.

I do not have a problem at the supermarket. My car (Toyota Yaris) has a very small boot and I always put the shopping on the back seat.

Any one rememeber the Beach Boys song 'The little old lady of Pasadena'?

everybody's sayin' that there's nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard
Go granny,go granny, go granny go

(I will even forgive him the 'granny')

Alea Thu 30-Jun-16 21:55:07

grannylynn I might have replied with
"You are a NOSEY Parker"!!

thatbags Thu 30-Jun-16 21:52:01

It's escape mode syndrome, jane10. I don't do it in supermarket car parks but I do in other places.

thatbags Thu 30-Jun-16 21:50:50

alea, YUSS! ?

Jane10 Thu 30-Jun-16 21:50:15

I don't understand why men people reverse into parking spaces in supermarket car parks. Its much easier to lift the bags from the trolley straight into the boot instead of having to squeeze along the side of the car to get to it.

Have a look at this "Don't mess with a Granny" video

Me too Stansgran. Someone left a note under my wipers saying, 'you are a rubbish parker'!!?

Jalima Thu 30-Jun-16 20:51:49

If he went into the disabled space it could be assumed that was the one where he was going to park.

Did you see this?
sorry, it's the DM grin

Stansgran Thu 30-Jun-16 20:48:55

I would have let him have the space if he were backing in. I don't do backing in. I do middle space of three straight in .

grannylyn65 Thu 30-Jun-16 19:30:17

Alea Thu 30-Jun-16 19:29:52

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 30-Jun-16 19:28:09

Well done! grin

Alea Thu 30-Jun-16 19:26:22

Not in a hurray!! HURRY.
But I thought "hurray"!!

Alea Thu 30-Jun-16 19:25:10

Stopped off at the supermarket on my way home from the hospital, drove into the car park, saw a space right ahead of me and nipped in.
That was when I realised that a Chelsea tractor the size of an office block had swung into a disabled space opposite with the intention of backing into the space I had just taken.
Oh well, I thought, shouldn't have made such a meal of it and maybe indicators might have helped.
A chap with a beard and a German accent wound down his window and said "I was going to park there" "Oh sorry "I said .
"Well are you going to stay there. Are you serious?"'he said.
"Yep" I replied and beat a hasty retreat over to the shop.
