Yesterday I went to the make up counter at John Lewis (wedding pending) to get my eyes done by the lady on the Clarins counter (Leicester branch she is lovely been there years). While I was perched on the stool being done a gentleman came along and started to join in our conversation about my eyes (lovely apparently!! grin) and the lady thought we were together so she kept asking his opinion. He chatted and smiled at me and then asked for some moisturiser- 'a metrosexual' I said giggling playfully, shameless hussy. The lady twigged we weren't together and went all apologetic served him and he went on his merry way. I have to ask myself when will I stop this unseemly behaviour- the answer is apparently probably never - are you a flirt or do you have more decorum than me?

My hairdresser and I flirt all the time. I am happily married and he is in a relationship. No harm in it

chrissyh Fri 01-Jul-16 10:57:39

Did anybody else have to look up what a 'metrosexual' was? Oh, just me then.

AlieOxon Fri 01-Jul-16 11:42:47

Yes, me. Reminds me of the 'Urban Spaceman' if anyone remembers the song.....

I get very disconcerted if faced with flirting these days...was never something I did, really!

I love flirting on the phone. I like to think I introduced the "double entendre" to the Germans back in the 70s. My voice doesn't give my age away, so it's fun to reveal that I have grandchildren once you get to know the people on the other end.

Tegan Fri 01-Jul-16 15:44:33

Yes, I have to agree about flirting on the phone. In the flesh I fear that if anyone of our ages flirts with anyone younger they'll just laugh behind our backs....

I too flirt with my.hairdresser He is in a long standing homosexual relationship and I habe been married a very long time .
A very long standing friend of mine is a dreadful flirt ;as he flirts with every woman he meets I think his wife of 40 years just smiles benignly .

I don't but my aunt was a shameless flirt until she died. At any family gathering the men would all end up gathering around her and us women would be left to our own devices hmm

I've never been a flirt - I just don't know how to do it, but I do come into regular contact with some beautiful young people of both sexes and often comment on their good looks or attractive personalities in a teasing kind of way. Many of my students, male and female, come to have a great fondness for me and one or two would say they love me - so even if I could flirt it would be inappropriate to risk turning a lovely wholesome relationship into something else.

I can't bear women who go all "kittenish" - but harmless flirting; go for it! Me too, I'm too reserved and terrified of falling flat on my face to flirt, but have been told I'm very, very charming! confused. Personally don't think so. DH and DS1 in particular are first and foremost charmers... It is very interesting to watch DS work a room, charming anyone/thing with a pulse.

At the end of a recent hospital consultation the doctor turned to my 89-year-old mum and asked if she had any questions ... 'Oh yes' said my mum 'where did you get your good looks from?' Then she proceeded to giggle ? The funny thing is that she is normally very quiet and reserved - her journey through dementia is definitely bringing down the barriers ? The consultant thought it was very funny ? To be fair mum wasn't wrong ?

Kittye Fri 01-Jul-16 22:19:58

grandMattie like you can't stand women who go all "kittenish" I know a few women like that and find it a bit "sad" in older women. In younger people I'd say go for it.
I can't be a***d nowadays,those days are gonegrin

grannyactivist Fri 01-Jul-16 22:31:30

Thank you Phoenix. I shall accept the compliment and ask you to ignore anyone who suggests you may need to visit Specsavers!! grin

I don't intentionally flirt but in flirtworthy company I have unintentionally said (or done) the most outrageous things at times. The latest was 2 weeks ago when my physio was working on the back of my hand and I found myself stroking his hand!

In common with several other posters my mother was quite a flirt but if she got a flirty response she always dismissed it with 'they're only after one thing'! However she was extremely embarassed just a week before she died when her doctor asked to see her tongue. 'Bet you're glad that's not in your mouth' says Mum! blush blush

I've never been a flirt and never really wanted to be. I dislike seeing people flirting as well, because to me, it looks a bit ridiculous. Other half loves to flirt, but he's so bad at it . If you are the jealous type, like me, it can cause a lot of trouble. If anyone flirts with me I tend to put on my 'bulldog chewing a wasp' face. Can't help it!

I have to admit to a wee flirt yesterday in Asda's car park. A gentleman of a certain age with a trolley full of party food walked past and asked about my car. 'that's a big beast' were his opening words. So after discussing the merits or otherwise of the beast, I commented on the contents of his trolley and asked if he was having a party. 'Yes, my 82nd'. Really! You don't look a day over 70. 'Right' wink says he. Like I don't look a day over 60. 'Really?!' You look much younger than that....... We were getting on so well, I thought I was going to be asked to the party, but no such luck; he continued on his way and got into an even bigger beast than mine shock. However, it made my day which up to then had been complete c* * *.
No harm in a bit of banter

I don't flirt very much these days but I remember as a teenager I used to take a friend of my grandmother shopping (someone once described her to me as "no better than she ought to be" - grandmother's friend not grandmother!). She was in a wheelchair and always said it put her at the right height to pinch the bottom of good looking young men! She would flirt at every opportunity and always seemed to be laughing. I was mortified at the time but now look back on those outings with great fondness.

I worry that flirting might give some people the wrong idea. A have a friend who is very giggly around men, and tends to bat her eyelids constantly. She had a problem while on holiday in Teneriffe. She and a female friend spent the late evening in the company of an off-duty manager, whereafter he appeared at her room. She, I suspect innocently enough, let him in, but she had difficulty trying to stop him when he became 'amorous'. Having seen her in action, I suspect she had given him the wrong impression earlier. After she returned home, she made a complaint, and he was disciplined.

I love a good flirt. I only learned how to do it a few years ago and it's such fun. Double entendres are sheer heaven especially when you say them in an innocent way and the guy isn't sure you know what you mean.

Jalima Sat 09-Jul-16 20:20:29

I think I banter rather than flirt,

If the man thought I was flirting he would probably run a mile!

madamecholet Sat 09-Jul-16 20:27:27

We have a lovely Italian barrista at our local coffee shop who flirts with all the ladies “d’un certain age”. Nothing too heavy, just the sort of lighthearted banter that brightens the day. DH grumbles that the chat is all a bit cheesy and predictable, so, for his sake, wink I always volunteer to go to the counter and order the coffees!

Jalima Sat 09-Jul-16 20:30:16

where are you madamecholet?
grin

madamecholet Sat 09-Jul-16 20:34:30

I wish I knew, Jalima! grin

Jalima Sat 09-Jul-16 20:35:49

madamecholet Sat 09-Jul-16 20:46:51

Hands off - I saw him first! angry
