I thought for one glorious moment that the strong solution of Vanish was to banish the awful news!( for those who haven't read earlier posts, it was actually to get rid of tea stain on carpet). If only it were as simple as that!

Forgive my flippancy but does the Brexit leave vote mean that all of the Spanish Slugs will be going home in a couple of years (came back off holiday to find that they've decimated my seedlings).

We're allowed to be flippant Direne! God, I hope they do go. Might be harder to get rid of the Spanisg bluebells though. Much hated as they are, I think they're quite nice! I haven't seen any of those orange slugs round our way, just the horrible grey things, so maybe they have migrated to particular areas? Or I don't have much to interest them.
Well I've done my frig. It wasn't too bad. A few mouldy veg but on the whole not as bad as usual. Now smells nice and looks more spacious. I didn't go for my drive as it started to rain. So I went to waitrose instead, a five minute drive away and for some nice indulgent bits and pieces. Overpriced raspberries and cream for one thing. Scrummy. Good luck with the slugs. Wasn't there a celebrity chef who served them with ice cream? Certainly wouldn't appeal to me though .

I find that looking at photos of Benedict Cumberbatch helps quite a lot....

It depends if the Spanish Slugs have been here long enough Bellanonna and if they have National Insurance numbers. Some of them of course will claim to be naturalised British.

They may by now have interbred and their offspring can legitimately claim to be British slugs.

Turn on the radio and listen to the Glastonbury festival Radio 2- I have never gone but was dancing around listening to ELO and similar - cheered me up! Got some much needed exercise too ?

Been working as volunteer at our local community gardening group at the farm with my super little GS. Been having fun times with my very international friends who are from all over the globe. Been trying to unblock a ghastly outside drain which was grim. Been eating a huge family sized bag of M&Ms ...all by myself because I had no intention of sharing them.....referendum?.... what referendum?

Well, I spent yesterday drinking Apersol spritz and eating pasta in Sorrento. Today, back to rainy Belfast with a load of dirty washing.

I agree with Stansgran. The World is a much bigger place than Europe.

I spent yesterday at a school reunion. Today I did some cleaning and gardening.

Life is back to normal.

Already have dual nationality from marriage. Have suggested to DH that we should get Greek passports just in case, but Greece isn't in a very good state either!

Reverting to earlier posts, what shall I say to the many Belgian, German and French opportunistic blackbirds which come into my garden in the winter? I can distinguish them by their non- yellow bills, so I know who they are! They will, of course, continue to come along with other European species, long after we've left Europe, and I shall make them very welcome. Others migrate too, of course, but not always to my garden, and not always from the EU.

I've had a European afternoon tea with British, German, French and Dutch friends here. And now I'm researching becoming a French citizen .....as soon as possible. My British passport can then be consigned to the bottom of a drawer - I'm ashamed to be associated with it.

Bellanonna are you sure that the blackbirds without yellow bills aren't the female ones? Be careful not to be sexist!

Ah no, elegran, I'm never sexist! The female - hen - blackbirds have brown plumage, wherever they're from. Male Blackbirds are black, but the Continental migrants who pop over the Channel to compete for food are the same as our resident birds with the exception of their bills, our males having yellow bills and the migrants having greyish ones.They only come in winter though. I had quite a few this year.
