Will you be awake to hear the referendum result?

I feel the same as Anya. To quote the song, 'There may be trouble ahead' could apply to which ever way the vote goes.

I'll have the radio on in the car at 07:00 on the wY home from work. With luck Waitrose night crew will have the tv on in the dining room!

I had a look at my voting card, and I didnt realise that the votes here are going to be part of a much much larger area. I can't see the result coming in from our area being declared until at least 7am.

I dont know if otehr areas are like that. If they are, it is going to take a long time to get them counted, in my opinion.

There are 382 counting areas. That seems a lot?

I now have an important appointment tomorrow morning, as well as DGS1 and 2 arriving early doors, so am going to need all my wits about me. Normally I'd stay up, as I would like to see the result start to take shape, but I might just have to try to get to bed early and get up very early tomorrow.

I understand about the reporting restrictions on polling day but wondering why we don't even know what turnout is like so far.

I purposely didn't go to the polling station too early, as I wanted to see what turnout was like - answer in ours, fairly high.
I was partly expecting it to be higher, but the day is not over.
I would have left it later to go and vote, but really really didn't want to fall ill or something happen so that I couldn't go!

Surprised, maybe I shouldn't have been, at what appears to be a high turnout at my local polling station. Far livelier than for the council elections.
I'm going to do as suggested on R4: bed at 8pm, alarm and radio set for 2.30 am to hear results come in. Wonder whether I'll sleep properly!

Our polling station looked busy too!

Been past a couple of polling stations and the both looked busy. I was pleased to see a lot of young people voting. It is our children and Grand children that will be most affected, so they need to make their decision.

I couldn't do that, Elrel. I don't even think I'll be able to get to sleep at 10, but I will try.

Our polling station was empty when we went in this afternoon, but the officials said it had been very busy earlier. Let's hope more people get into the habit of voting in future.

Absolutely not. Been on my feet for six hours fishing and am struggling to stay awake now. DH will be glued to it through the night, though. Good luck to him. Our polling station was busy this morning when we went, but passed a few on the way home from the res and they didn't look very busy at all.

Our polling station had 500 out of 800 possibles with an hour and a half to go.

This area in general always has a low turn out so much more interest than for a normal election.

Anyone know or guess whether a high turnout is good for Leave or good for remain?

I was disappointed to hear the results would be announced regionally. I think that will be very divisive, whatever the overall result. Far better just to have final figures for the whole UK. We are likely to have trouble from regions which voted the opposite way to the final result.

Rubysong, here has to be transparency with the count. Keeping the local counts secret would lead to claims of fixing.

I went to bed to no votes in and likely reamin accrding to the BBC, and silly Farage almost conceding then taking it back or something, to awake now and looking like Leave?

Anyone still up? I was going to bed then turned onto Auntie Beeb and it is very close so staying with it for now. Our town has voted to Remain but my ED's city has voted to Leave. Very surprised there. Come and chat, make my early morning more exciting. History is being made.

I'm awake. Went to sleep around midnight when Remain appeared to be in the lead, woke at 4am to hear the whole thing reversed. Voted out but have to confess it's a bit scary. Definitely need a strong government now to steer us through what is probably going to be a rocky time.
