Yes, I like the Facebook buttons too, though I keep dithering over which to go for. I never did cope well when given too much choice.

S'OK Maggie I sometimes miss out whole pages when I'm muddling up the 'previous' last or 'next' buttons though I agree I don't like the mobile site one little bit.

I do like the new buttons on Facebook and I think GN technies and HQ ought to move with the times.

I think it's fine for GNHQ to say no but an explanation would be nice.

It's too costly.
It's not in our technology or digital plan - so no budget.
Our platform doesn't support it.
Or whatever.....

I don't think the Mumsnet hasn't got it so you can't have it holds any water. Two different markets, two VERY different forum styles.

If Facebook makes it work then it would have to be a pretty persuasive argument to deny it here ( unless the answer is because we say so

Sorry, Anya, I didn't notice your post re not being able to access the desktop site. I dip my toe in the mobile site every so often, just to confirm I don't really like it. Then I switch back.

Mumsnet has neither 'like' nor 'edit' buttons. GNHQ is not going to give us something Mumsnet hasn't got!

I think Polly that was why face book changed their buttons so now you have 5 options, like, love, wow( or amazement) sad and angry .

Seems to work well enough.

The like button would not be hard to add dependent on what GN are running the forum on.

D has just told me that if I can't see there is a clique then I'm part of it
I'm struggling with that one. No way can I see it.

As I understand it, on FB if someone posts a message about being ill or sad or something awful has happened then a like button is not appropriate, and a dislike can be used then. But I agree it's open to misinterpretation and on this site could be taken to mean criticism!

I don't have any need to know how many 'likes' a post might have, ninathenana. But 'likes' would be more succinct than having smiley posts scattered throughout the thread. Luckily people don't do that, tho.

I do think an 'edit' option would be nice and would have thought a classy site like GN would have that. Although posters could make more use of the 'Preview Message' option before whacking 'Post'.

Why can't they try to develop a slightly thicker skin, stick their heads above the parapet, and say what they think? Thus making Gransnet a much more interesting place to be.

Re the 'cliqueyness' (is that an actual word?) that already exists, but there are those who dare not venture an opinion very often who might just want to add some little something to the thread. As these are people who rarely, if ever, post anyway they can't be accused of 'cliqueyness' Q.E.D.

Farnorth I don't understand the need to know how many 'likes' a person has for their post. Or see why it would be confusing to have several smileys. Surely the number of likes only concerns the person receiving them. Unless you feel that people would be persuaded by the number of "likes' for a certain post.

Yes, we're all kitted out at Farlows of Pall Mall, fish the River Test and have plums in our mouths don't yer know! (Now that would definitely get me several 'likes' from the fly fishing plumbers, bakers, engineers, retired steel workers, university lecturers and other hoi polloi who make up our esteemed numbers!).
