dustyangel I struggle to put into words the things that I'm wanting to say. Methinks it's one of the downsides of getting longer in the tooth.
Depression is something that I've experienced on several occasions. Apart from the effects on the sufferer, it's so much worse for a partner to deal with. You are dealing with a very sad anniversary. Your daughter is at the airport. Your husband will be feeling anxious about the mammogram results.
I understand that talking about your sadness cannot make the hurt go away. If it helps (just a little) to talk to us lot then please continue.

GandTea sorry about the toothache. As for persuading Mrs P that you would like to add a banjo to your collection...you may need to grovel apply tender loving care (a barrow-load should do the trick)

Just heard of the death of an old friend. Following the break up of his marriage, he had become a total recluse, would not answer the phone or door, several of us had tried to contact him over the last year, but to no avail. He had even lost contact with his daughter, she however became worried and forced an entry to find him dead in a chair, he had died a couple of weeks before.
So tragic, I had feared he would die alone and forgotten.

Dusty angel, all best wishes for a good outcome. I have been there myself and men take it very badly.
GandTea, how sad about your friend. I am feeling brighter. I dragged my H out for a pub meal, the first time he has been out for many many months. He didn't enjoy it, we had gammon and he complained all through the meal that is was too big a meal!!
I enjoyed it and bought a bottle of red wine and asked for the stopper and I brought it home and am enjoying a glass with the TV.

Sitting here in tears, watching Birmingham Children's Hospital. Young lad had brain surgery for seizures and a little girl with Sickle Cell Anaemia. So vey brave for them to have to make such life changing decisions at just 16.

Heart warming stories, so why do I find myself crying most weeks?

I agree, a humbling programme, very brave young people, parents putting their trust, and their children's lives, into the hands of the dedicated staff.

I still feel an affinity with Birmingham Children's Hospital which is where DS2 had a big operation as a two-year-old. He was in for five weeks and later for another short stay. I stayed in the parents' accommodation. The surgeon was second to none and the nurses kind and caring to both patients and their parents. This was 41 years ago and I can see that the ethos hasn't changed a bit. Glad to say that DS2 made a complete recovery thanks to their dedication and expertise and is now himself a dad of two lovely boys.

I am partial to something haunting on the bagpipes Rose so you carry on. Its throwing it down with rain this morning here and I have to go and do 2 mystery shops for RICA a bit of a drive away. Not looking forward to that much but no time to cancel.

Reading your posts about the hospital programme I wonder if any of you have heard of this ....

We all like a letter in the post , there's something nice about opening it and being able to reread it. Well the children on this site are all very poorly and they like post ( or emails) too.

If anyone has the time maybe you would like to send a card , or a postcard from your part of the world or from your holiday, to one of these children. You can make it a regular thing or a one off. So there is no commitment if you don't want to make it one.

I do a lot of crafting and every month I make a special card and pop it in the post. It reminds me how grateful I am for my 4 happy, healthy little ones.

I think the saddest thing about my friends death is that he had cut himself off from everyone that cared about him. So often you see cases like this on TV and ask "how could this happen today". If someone decides to become a recluse, what can anyone do. He had a friend that lived close by, but had not been able to see him for over a year, simply because he would not answer the door or phone.

GandTea it must be so frustrating that you could not help, but there is not much you can do if someone cuts them-self off.

jingl we are quite happy as we are thank you- no need for any intruders, that is not what soop's kitchen is about. It is to get away from all of the nastiness around and there is a lot at present.

Dusty and GandTea*, very sad.

I had my front and French doors replaced yesterday and the company fitted the new cat flap. Stupid me did not think that I had to stand over him to make sure that it was fitted properly. It has been fitted back to front and when I queried it, it is for Elf and Safety reasons. In a nutshell, any passing child could lock Tara in or out of the house- just marvellous. The controls have always been on the inside.

I rang the company and gave them a piece of my mind- it is head office's bright idea- I doubt if any of them have a cat! Somebody is coming on Monday to reverse it. Luckily Tara was able to work out how to come in and also how to go out this morning. I did state that Tara would not be able to get in or out, I was told I could open my new door! I was not quick enough to say that Tara cannot quite reach the doorbell.

In the afternoon another clown from that company rang asking me if I wanted another quote- I asked what for and he said conservatory or porch- I said I have neither, goodbye.

Tonight, like ann yesterday, I am going to have a decent supper and open a bottle of wine.

New curtains and blinds are on the back burner. I need somebody who can hang the curtains as well as fit the blinds- I looked up Hill***'s on line but I thought that the curtains were too old fashioned so that went out the window.
I have only managed to fix the old curtains with 2 hooks on each. For safety reasons I cannot stand on the top of my 2 step ladder and also with my Macular degeneration I cannot see the hooks so I will wait until my cleaner comes on Tuesday and she will do it for me.

At this rate the care home will be beckoning soon!

Curtains are the bane of my life at the moment. We choose some fabric from a shop in Inverness and rang the measurements in, but we wanted a written quote - 2 weeks later we are still waiting. I am finding it harder to sleep in the light nights (we currently have vertical blinds) but they will have passed before we get the curtains sorted. I can't believe the shop doesn't want the order, it is for a considerable amount as I want all the bedrooms the same.

Also the price has increased so much since we last bought some 7 years ago. I know that is some time ago but the new fabric is nearly 3 times the price, and the making up over 2 times.
