Sadly the London suburbs don't offer us such superb sights and just now there is no sun to speak of anyway. I've just spent a few rainy days near Chichester - a lovely part of the country, but a bit miserable weatherwise. I shall migrate to the kitchen to share your lovely views for a while, I think, and enjoy some of that Scottish sunshine.

Bellanonna you obviously live in "the wrong part of London" because until 5 minutes ago we have had beautiful sunshine. There was a small shower but the sun is out again.

I agree, the Scottish sunsets are gorgeous.

I probably do, Charleygirl ! My daughter lives 20 miles away in Surrey, and it's sunny there too!

olgoat There is a gentle breeze. And...dare I whisper...^no midges^ The critters prefer damp, muggy weather. They cannot fly when there is a light breeze. I've a feeling that we're over the worst.

Tizliz No chair required. The chaise is virtually as accommodating as is necessary. Tea and an apple turnover waiting - complete with a freshly starched napkin.

I'm away to pedal the exercise bike. At six o'clock sharp, I shall sip a chilled G&T with ice, lime and a splash of elderflower cordial (unsweetened)...I shall also read the daily newspaper.

took the DGC to a Summer Fete today, and naturally, British Summer etc the heavens opened.Anyway we won various things and the DGC came back a bit damp but happy.Got home, checked the garden after the deluge and found a HUGE hedgehog hiding under the wheelbarrow [left it there.]

I imagine a horde of Gransnetters like a scene from the Night Of The Living Dead... all headed towards Tesco murmuring [not Brains] but 'honeycombe magnums'.

It is all Alea's fault- she trialled the honeycomb Magnums!

Sorry and al that Charleygirl but Wait***e are doing 3 for 2 on all ice creams - including Magnums!!!

OMG my neighbours have their heating on! I am in trousers and T shirt.

I have been to my "sort of" GS' first communion. Not being catholic I feel it is too young at nearly 8 to take such a step but I went to support him and his parents. He read a prayer beautifully. Sometimes we have to do things for the greater good. When we got to church the heavens opened for roughly 15/20 mins but we went back to the house for tea in the garden and it was full sun and lovely. A lovely occasion but I have my reservations about such a solemn vow for such young children.

Charley if you have read any of my posts you will know I am from N.Ireland! We were defeated by Wales (and I'm not talking referendum here) but the team played their best. So next up will be my other country: Ireland. ?? As I am planning to apply for Irish passport soon, that is the other half of my identity.

At least if you have an Irish passport there will be no problem if you want to pop over the border for any reason- no controls etc. What a performance.

There has been so much divisive talk on here.....about the joys of Magnums.....that I am getting quite edgy. Going to have to take a walk down to the local shop now! I can't resist any more ?

Jud I feel exactly the same. I am going out shortly to have my hair cut etc so I may pop into Waitrose and see what all of the fuss is about. I could try one of the honeycomb Magnums when I am watching the football this afternoon.

Hello dear Kitcheners...for a change, we're experiencing a little light rain. There isn't a view of the islands. The Scottish haar will persist until the sun shines.

Judthepud I wanted NI to win. Not because I'm a soccer fan but because I saw film of the real fans being courteous and, what's more, picking up litter from gathering points. I was very impressed.
I did feel very sorry for player that scored an own goal.

rosesarered Lucky you. Not for getting a soaking but for having a hedgehog take shelter under your wheelbarrow. We have a wee chalet all kitted out for hedgehogs. So far, it has remained empty. I think that they are such charming creatures.

annsixty You attended the service because you wished to support family members. That was a decent decision.

Alea You tyke! Have you no consideration for we folk who haven't a Waitrose within sixty odd miles? Shame on you.

Charleyg Where do get a hair cut on a Sunday? I've bitten the bullet and made an appointment to have a brand new hairdo in time for my 75th birthday. The first available appointment with a good hairdresser in Campbeltown, is August 5th. I'm prepared to wait. The lady who will restyle my hair has an excellent reputation.

soop I am lucky that in the part of London where I live, this salon opened about a year ago, giving 7 day a week service and is within waling distance if I wished. It is clean, well run and the staff are very pleasant. Today was only the second time that I have been there but so far so good.

Language is a slight problem but that has never hindered me throughout my working life. They appear to be doing well now which is good.

I then took a trip to Waitrose, about one mile away from the salon and bought crusty warm bread and a 1/4 leg of chicken for lunch. Scrumptious.

I bought 3 honeycomb Magnums but I will have to save up my pocket money as they were expensive- no discount.

I must hang out the washing and put on another load in readiness for watching the football- Ireland against France I think.

Charleyg Thanks for reminding me that the washing machine cycle finished 30 minutes ago.

I've done 3 loads of washing today. Old habits die hard. Goes back to when I was working and did the washing and ironing on a Sunday.

TriciaF I remember "those days"...having to catch up on a heap of stuff that needed attention. I can remember thinking to myself...I'm on a merry go round, and can't step off. Life is far pleasanter now.

Our friend has left, child minding duties over for now, two washer loads lurking in the conservatory as it pouring. Normal service is resumed. . Loved the childcare, managed the tiredness and certainly never bored. Catching up with the mundane now. Had a quick dip into the referendum threads. The tone had me running back here. I don't understand how attacking individuals will help the situation. Onwards! As usual, over-catered for the visit, so have left some meringue, cream and mixed berries - if everyone isnt full of honeycomb Magnum. Not sure if I dare admit this, but I'm not keen on them. .

Well, I have a slight problem which makes me an odd one out in here.
I don't like Magnums.

Is it ok for me to eat Waitrose milk choc ices instead please?
