grilling with the oven door closed

No handle it's a new rule seemingly!
My Belling book says never grill with door shut.

Mine also says to leave the door open when grilling. You do need a grill pan handle but mine is removable and not at all stable when attached.

My grill has an auto-shut off if the door is closed. I wouldn't grill with the door closed anyway - as others say, it would become an oven instead of a grill! However, I do also have a combi microwave with a grill and, being a microwave, the door must be shut before any of the functions will operate .

My last oven had a shield to stop the knobs getting hot and the door open when grilling , the current one has no shield and the instructions are to grill with the door closed , my eldest DS didn't believe me till I got the book out and showed him

I've always grilled with the oven door open, although my new one isn't very clear about what I should be doing.

mine gets loads of condensation build up on glass if I shut to grill, man in shop I bought it off when I mentioned it said don't you read the book it comes with door open for grilling , door shut for oven other wise I go through loads of kitchen roll wiping the wet up

I think if your oven's instructions say to close the door it will have a fan system to ensure the oven doesn't overheat - that's what mine does.

I've always thought you had to leave open while grilling because it would blow up if you didn't. I don't know why I thought that. It'll be the over heating thing won't it!

Mine's a NEF and it says you must close the oven door too.

Door closed, per instructions from NEFF. Works more efficiently. I went to a NEFF cooking demo and the demonstrator emphasised closed door both for efficiency & safety so I just do what she said!

My NEFF ovens have the slide away doors so I am not sure how grill works with them. I have always had a combination microwave oven which is much easier for grilling.

My oven has two grill functions. The fan grill must have the door shut but the plain grill has to have the door open. Must admit I preferred the old eye level grill from the 70s/80s. Toast was next best thing to toasting on the fire.

Instructions for mine say closed. Doesn't work otherwise.

My Electrolux oven says the door must be closed when grilling which creates a lot of steam when grilling certain foods. Re handles, mine came without and when I enquired in a kitchen shop I was told this was due to health and safety!! He then sold me one for £20!

I also have a Neff and have great difficulty with the controls even after reading all the instructions .... but it definitely says to keep the grill door shut while grilling.

My Bosch double oven instructions says doors shut when grilling. It toasts bread very fast, so I have to watch it. The universal pan used for grilling doesn't have handles.

In my last house I had a STOVES cooker. To use the top oven as a grill you had to turn the control to 'grill' and leave the door open. One day I forgot and closed it.... the glass inner door shattered and because it was an older model could not be replaced. Lesson learned

My oven, which is fairly new, stipulates you must close the door when grilling. I hate doing this as I like to keep an eye on what I'm cooking.

Always with the door open...I've never thought about closing the door as I would have to attach and remove the grill handle every time I wanted to check on the food being grilled.

My mother recently shut the top oven door when grilling and there was an explosion of sorts - the glass door shattered and hot fat sprayed all over the floor. Luckily no one was in range at the time. I suspect, though, that if she had been nearby she would have noticed that something was going wrong before it got to that stage.

My grill won't work if the door is closed. Having previously been used to an efficient eye level grill I found that out the hard way when we moved to this house with its built in oven and no instruction book.

My eye level oven is a Bosch and instructions are keep door closed while grilling and when oven is cooling after being turned off.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions. In particular Bosch Neff and Siemens have closed door grilling which is essential. I was a Home Economist in the Home Appliance industry for over thirty years working for a number of manufacturers including those mentioned (three brands one company). Preheating the grill can often be important too. As we used to say...RTFM! I'll leave you to work that out.

I have never shut the door as the food would burn. Out of sight out of mind !

Mine is an eye level grill (much easier though seemingly going out of fashion. There is a handle to grill pan and instructions say always leave door open when grilling , so I do! It doubles as a small top oven in which case of course i close the door.
