This morning the teenager in our house actually put a new roll of toilet paper in the holder!

Perhaps she's been watching that youtube instruction video that someone posted on another thread some time back wink

In his first year DS 2 had an ensuite room in hall. ( indulged, I know) after a few days he rang to ask for extra money to buy cleaning things! The hall room cleaners didn't do the ensuite! At least he was cleaning, I think they fined them for dirt!

That was Manchester too, Nellie. Did your son's house by any chance have so many dart holes in the front door, you could see daylight shining through? grin

When my student DS and his 7 partners in grime housemates wanted to get their bond back at the end of a riotous year, he rang me to ask how to clean the only toilet. When I asked him what they'd used all year, there was an ominous silence...

mumofmadboys That sounds like my son's student house in Manchester. It was an appalling mess. We lent them our vax machine to clean up when they left and when we got it back it stank. I don't think any of them had cleaned the floor the whole year.

mumofmadboys Thu 12-May-16 07:59:34

When I visited my son at uni once there were 19 discarded loo rolls on the floor in the vicinity of the loo!!!

What a great small triumph - I know what you mean!

Jalima Wed 11-May-16 20:54:02

I just asked DH and he said 'from the front - the other way you could be scrabbling around the wall trying to find the end'.
Of course, I always leave it with the pointy bits a la best hotels hmm
and DH grew his parsnips in the empty holders.

Well done, minibags, I am very impressed, mine never learnt to do that until they left home!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-May-16 20:21:03

But... If it's hanging down the wall...

Oh! Never mind! hmm grin

Bellanonna Wed 11-May-16 20:11:44

Just ready your earlier comment jbf
Depends where yours is hung. Mine's to my left, so NO dirty fingers. I'm right handed.

Elegran Wed 11-May-16 20:03:25

maggie and then there is the way they so often fix those huge containers to the wrong wall. There is no space to get past it while you close the door. The door swings in an arc which almost touches the loo and then almost touches the loo-roll container, There is nowhere to stand as it swings past you - unless you climb up on the loo seat.

If they hung it on the other wall, it would be out of the way. I think the installer leans his back against the open door and drills the holes in the wall opposite him. I say "his" intentionally.

Bellanonna Wed 11-May-16 20:02:57

jings - give me a reason why the other way is better ?

merlotgran Wed 11-May-16 19:33:11

maggie grin

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-May-16 19:32:28

Bellanonna give me a reason why that way is better?! confused

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-May-16 19:31:31

How come we are back talking crap toilet stuff again? confused

Bellanonna Wed 11-May-16 19:31:08

Oh so glad to see some people hang the roll same way as me. We had a thread about this last year and I think I was the only one who did it " my" way. ann and maggie - we are right, of course.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-May-16 19:30:41

Yes. Always sort those huge containers out before you sit down.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-May-16 19:30:03

Of course you should let the roll dangle down from the front. You don't want poo-ey dirty fingers touching the wall! (on the second pull)

Maggiemaybe Wed 11-May-16 19:26:54

And don't even get me started on those dispensers in public conveniences that never have an end free to pull. The time I've wasted heaving a gigantic loo roll around scrabbling desperately about for it. They're worse than ruddy sellotape.

Maggiemaybe Wed 11-May-16 19:22:11

From the back, of course! Anything else is just wrong. smile

annsixty Wed 11-May-16 19:14:18

I like it that way merlot it tears better for me.

Indinana Wed 11-May-16 19:13:00

I like it to feed from the front - it's a habit I got into when our then bathroom had painted walls (tiles only round the bath) and dirty little fingers weren't always careful to avoid the wall when unrolling the loo paper shock

merlotgran Wed 11-May-16 18:48:28

Can somebody tell me what is the right way round?

I like the loo paper to feed from behind the roll.....Is that wrong? confused

Maggiemaybe Wed 11-May-16 10:13:48

Somebody keeps doing this at my house, too. Unfortunately the wrong way round. Sometimes they take off a half full roll then replace it the wrong way round. I am launching an investigation. Operation Illegal Overhang.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-May-16 10:07:55

She loves ya Bags. She wants to help her old mum. smile

harrigran Wed 11-May-16 09:48:34

That pointy thing with the toilet paper, I do that. When I clean the bathrooms I replace the toilet roll and fold the end, guest bathroom only, DH knows to use that bathroom at his peril if I am expecting visitors. I do stop short of putting tape across the loo seat the way posh hotels do grin
