My DH is a gentleman. He is kind and considerate to people and has got his priorities right I think. My sister described him last week as 'too nice' which means he is sometimes too eager to please others at his own expense. I'm trying to 'cure' him of that

I always think gentleman means a gentle man - but perhaps it's short for "gentry", I don't know. Anyway that's what the word means to me - a gentle man.

My husband, father in law and sons are all gentlemen. I would be very disappointed in myself (and my husband) if my sons were not.

To retain the true meaning of gentleman I think that an affair would mean that the lovely David Beckham could not be called a gentleman. A lovely chap though.
