Having just been tempted to purchase a new pair of shoes, much to my OH's bewilderment , I wondered how many pairs of shoes other people have. Don't think I will confess until I see if others are as bad. How many pairs to you have and how many do you actually wear?

michellehargreaves Sat 23-Apr-16 09:06:47

God knows how many pairs. Some in Blighty some in France. Addicted to L. K Bennet high heels, kitten heels, ballet pumps. When all else fails : shoes.

Jayh Sat 23-Apr-16 09:16:11

Ah, yes, Cornergran, the shoes that I may decide to wear again. Lovely high heels, red shoes bought on a whim, the scholl wooden sandals that reminded me of my teenage years but are unwearable now really. Perhaps the OH is right to roll his eyes.

Pamaga Sat 23-Apr-16 09:24:40

Frankly, I am scared to count them all.
Off hand I can think of:
2 pairs long boots (one black, one brown)
3 pairs biker boots (one black, one brown, one fancy)
4 pairs of brogues (animal print, black, brown and cream)
2 pairs trainers (one black, one white)
2 pairs walking boots (one black, one green)
I tend to wear trousers/jeans a lot these days so all these are regularly used.
However, i do have some heels for special occasions - bought some recently and think I have about 5 pairs (gold, cream, navy, red, black)
I also have some boots with heels (again the usual, one brown, one black ) for wearing with smarter trousers.
Oh - and two pairs wellies.
Sandals? Not sure, probably about 5 pairs.
Feeling embarrassed now. I am clearly a shoe-a-holic.

I like to think of myself as 'not a shoe person' but I have 3 pairs of knee high boots and four pairs of ankle boots. Then there are the many pairs of Skechers shoes, sandals, crocs and slippers. I clearly like shoes more than I care to admit.

Worlass Sat 23-Apr-16 09:29:10

I'd be too embarrassed to admit how many pairs of boots, shoes etc I have. Sufficient to say that last winter I bought a new pair of boots, convincing myself I really needed them. Needless to say, they were never worn. Some time later, on one of my (very infrequent) forages into my under-bed storage boxes, I discovered FIVE pairs of boots which I had forgotten I owned. To my knowledge, I have six unworn pairs of sandals/shoes in my cupboard. I wear the same pair of black 'ballerinas' almost every day. I blame the parents......I remember when I was in primary school lusting after a pair of shoes with green laces, as worn by a classmate. I was forced to make do with dull black lace-ups. blush

Marieeliz Sat 23-Apr-16 09:35:33

I have at least 50. Why, because I have narrow feet so when I am away and see a pair I get them.

ClaraB Sat 23-Apr-16 09:47:07

Far too many to count! Lots are stored in boxes. I have some for every occasion, always handy for weddings and christenings. Although I now tend to wear boots in the winter and flip flops in the summer.

NonnaAnnie Sat 23-Apr-16 09:47:40

2 pairs of Uggs
2 pairs of Sketchers walkers
2 pairs of flats
1 pair small heels (not worn them in more than five years)
10 pairs of flipflops

I tend to wear the Uggs in the winter and the flipflops in the summer and the walkers when walking. The others when I need to look a bit smarter.

I've broken both my feet over the years, so my shoe collection has been severely cut back, as I couldn't wear most of them anymore due to pain sad
3 pairs of boots, one leather knee high, one sheepskin knee high, one leather ankle height.
7 pairs shoes, all low heel or almost flat.
3 pairs trainers.
2 pairs wellies, one lives in car at all times.
3 pairs slippers, which I wear depends on the season!
The pair of high heels which I wore for DS's wedding last year, (the pain was horrific) I doubt I'll ever wear them again, but will keep them just in case!
I will admit to being a 'Fitflop' addict, there are 9 pairs of them in the wardrobe, they're the one thing I can wear that takes the pain out of my feetsmile

Why do only women understand why we need three or more pairs of black shoes?

Longdistancegrnny Sat 23-Apr-16 10:18:01

Oh dear - well a couple of years ago my husband was away for a weekend and I decided to count my shoes - to my amazement I found that I had 71 pairs!!!! And that was without the 15 pairs of boots, wellies and slippers. I took a photo of them all laid out on my bedroom floor and then I had a cull - well I got rid of a couple of pairs of boots and about 10 pairs of shoes. Of course since then I have bought some, chucked some, so no idea of current tally! Optimistically I went through some summer shoes yesterday and have thrown out a few pairs.
My problem is wide feet with bunions so if I see ones that fit and feel vaguely comfy (usually in TK Maxx) I get them. Still like to look elegant and think I can wear heels, but to be honest except for high days and holidays I have black, navy and beige Gabor pumps which I wear most days, unless it is boot weather.

I have very narrow feet and odd toes so if footwear is comfortable I buy it, though always from an Outlet Centre.
I'd never buy footwear that needed ' broken in', they must be comfortable from the start, and always leather. Many shoes still worn are over 10 years old. Last year I did a cull of my 40+ footwear and sold many on eBay.
Because of toe joints, shoes with heels are very painful.

At present I have.... off the top of my head.
1 pair Reiker walking boots tan.
1 pair taupe ankle boots with very small heel
1 pair brown shoe boots with very small heel.
1 pair sturdy walking shoes.
1 pair black satin wedding shoes with medium heel.
1 pair flat patent Clarks flats with ankle strap.
1 pair Clarks low wedge black leather with ankle strap and bow.
1 pair flat suede Clarks pumps. black
1 pair flat suede Clarks pumps burgundy
2 pair flat suede Clarks pumps - taupe
1 pair flat suede Clarks pumps - cerise pink.
2 pairs Clarks velcro walking sandals - black and taupe
1 pair pewter Fitflops
1 pair burgundy Clarks flat slides.
1 pair white Clarks lace up shoe casual.
1 pair pale grey Clarks suede lace up brogues.
1 pair grey suede and leather lace up trainer style Gabor (£2 in Charity shop)
2 pairs flipflops for when painting toe nails etc.
1 pair flat M & S navy and cream pumps with peep toe and fabric flower.
1 pair Reekbock trainers white.
1 pair black Skechers
1 pair navy Skechers
1 pair navy wellies
1 pair Ugg style slippers
1 pair old lady style slippers
1 pair indoor slippers
Old trainers in the garage for garden work.

These are stored in the shoe hangy thingys that hang from a wardrobe rail, each one taking about 8 pairs.... from TK Maxx.

Each one of the above pairs are comfy and get worn in season, except the wedding shoes which have two pairs of tights stored with them.

I have a large wooden trunk full of shoes, sandals and boots. I hardly ever lookin there, preferring to wear my current pairs of footwear which reside on a shoe rack for convenience. I quite honestly don't know how many pairs are in there, some sandals and at least two pairs of boots, plus shoes I've had for years, but can't bear to throw out. Really must have a clear out.
Good excuse to buy some new more fashionable ones.

MadMaisie Sat 23-Apr-16 11:26:37

I'm with MiniMouse!

grandMattie Sat 23-Apr-16 11:31:49

Cool, I have never heard of anyone with so many shoes/boots! wink Wow!

My cupboard has:-
3 pairs black knee boots for winter
1 pair walking boots
1 pair trainers
2 pairs walking sandals,
1 pair high heel black courts
1 pair sandals

slippers are worn most of the winter, bare feet summer...

Maggiemaybe Sat 23-Apr-16 11:42:12

I'm putting off jobs round the house as usual, so have just counted mine. I was expecting around 50, and got to 54. But I've just remembered my stash of sandals, stored with my Summer stuff and not brought out yet. There'll be at least 10 pairs in there. I haven't bought any for ages, but must have a cull. Many of them are heels that I always wore for work, and I certainly don't need them all now, especially as the bunion is starting to make its presence felt!

Maggiemaybe Sat 23-Apr-16 11:47:26

I remember a discussion like this a year or two back, about shoes and knickers, and I had roughly the same number of each. I probably need professional help! blush

Tizliz Sat 23-Apr-16 12:32:42

Think I will read some of these out to OH, makes my 19 pairs seem tame.

Never been into trainers, I like flat leather shoes preferably with Velcro (that is not old age it is arthritis in my fingers makes laces difficult). However the pair I wear most do have laces but they are waterproof for dog walking and stout enough to wear in our engineering workshop. No sandals as I can't wear them to work and they are not compatible with big dogs.

Tizliz Sat 23-Apr-16 12:34:23

Maggiemaybe think you are right, I probably have about the same number of knickers as shoes. Much prefer buying shoes.

Willow500 Sat 23-Apr-16 13:01:20

Thank heavens there are some as bad as me! I'm not home so can't count mine but have far too many which are never worn, in winter I wear the same pair of boots most of the time despite having many other pairs and in summer mostly the same ballerina type ones. There is currently a carrier in my bedroom with a very nice pair of royal blue shoes and matching handbag which need returning as they don't match the outfit I bought them for - as time goes on I'm convincing myself they'll come in for something else grin

SusieB50 Sat 23-Apr-16 14:21:13

I've got so many I can't wear anymore after a foot injury which requires me to generally wear a lace up shoe , a wide strap or boots to support my damaged irreparable tendon. Also have bunions and wide feet ! But I needed a smart black pair to attend a funeral a few months ago and I pulled out a pair of flatish Hotter shoes I had had for years . All was fine until I realised as I was walking from the car to the cemetery, that the soles were falling apart and I was leaving a trail of rubber behind me! I have now thrown away most of my ancient Hotter shoes , as when I went to the shoe menders to get them re-soled, I was told that they can't be repaired and the rubber starts to breakdown after a few years even if they are not worn ! Didn't want to be caught out again .

Pianist Sat 23-Apr-16 14:30:53

Mine are spread in cupboards throughout the house and I often come across ones I've forgotten about (shamefaced blush).

Marydoll Sat 23-Apr-16 14:36:30

I am too embarrassed to say how many.
I have collected them over the years, at markets when I go abroad. After all, if you can pick up a pair of leather boots for next to nothing, who can resist. Let's just say Imelda Marcus and I are in competition with each other.
I can't bear to throw any out. However, had a big clear out recently, as my rheumatoid arthritis has flared up and I have to stick permanently to flatties.
Is that an excuse for a whole new wardrobe of sensible shoes?

Craftycat Sat 23-Apr-16 14:42:13

Can't count them! Far too many. I still cannot resist a gorgeous pair although I don't pay the earth for them. HAD to buy a fabulous grey suede pair with a floral side panel, a HUGE grey satin bow & a high heel this winter. I had nothing to go with them but I just fell in love- so I bought a lovely top to match from same company. I just get them out at look at sometimes- only worn them 4 times so far. I still have the 4" stilettos in every colour you can imagine I bought from Faith when I was working- I still love them too.
I am rather fond of shoes!

5 pairs ankle boots, 10 pairs Dr Lightfoot s, 4 pairs best , 2 long boots, 2 walking boots , about 10 pairs sandals and wear them all. My feet a size bigger than a few years ago so had to replace a few for bigger or have stretched. My chiropodist says this is common. She said if I found a comfortable shoe to get a few - hence Dr LIGHTFOOTS in many colours ! I once heard that the average woman has 41 pairs and some of my young colleagues have 80+.
