Happy Birthday Queen Elizabeth to use that awful cliche "you have always been there for me" I can't imagine life without her and I echo annodomini, I'll settle for the status quo.

She's one of the few people who look good in yellow and I do like her hat - a very cheerful birthday look. The old boy looks quite fit too.
I'm not much of a monarchist but when I reflect who we might have had as a president, I think I'll settle for the status quo.

I think the Queen is an asset to this country - we don't know the amount of work she does behind the scenes.

To all those who want to see an end to the monarchy can I suggest they imagine what it would be like to have no choice what job you do (if you have the sense of duty the Queen obviously has), that you will have to do that job until you die, that you will have to meet people you find distasteful and even have them stay in your home. Too bad if you feel like a night in if there is an event which requires your attendance, your appearance and behaviour will be continually scrutinised, you will not be allowed to express any personal preferences and you will have to accept being criticised just for being who you are. I wouldn't want that job no matter how much they paid me.

Wonderful lady! May she make the centenary!

She is remarkable for 90, but I bet she has never had to wait from November to April to get physiotherapy after breaking a hip like my 90 year old mother.
I'm a dyed in the wool republican (not the American type) but I do admit that we could have problems with a replacement.

I'm proud of our Queen, I even like Prince Charles these days, ditto Princess Anne.

The Duke of York and his spoiled daughters are another matter.

Happy 90th birthday, Ma'am! You are a credit to the country and your hard work is an example to us all.

Realistically I doubt anyone else could have done the job our queen Elizabeth has done and still be alive ... she was born at a time when many wonderful people made our lives better ... history books will attest to that.

I have great respect for her and can relate to her family worries ironically .... it shows great strength of character a sense of responsibility and dedication.

I am glad we have our queen no matter what some might say as it binds the fabric of our country together and unites us.

Napoleon I did think the handbag was a lovely touch - it was Zara and Mike Tindall's little girl holding the bag - which is what many little girls love to do. I thought that she probably picked it up and Annie thought it would add to the photographic moment!

Shelagh6 how many times do people have to be told that the amount of tourism the Queen and her family bring into this country vastly out strips what it cost us I think it was 50p per person per month if you don't like it that your problem but for me God bless you and I hope you have a fantastic birthday ??

As a non admirer of royalty, I am however a huge admirer of Annie Leibovitz who'se photograph of the Queen and her grandchildren in today's Times is magnificent. She has managed to compose a portrait of royalty as if it were an ordinary family photograph. The best was the Queens enormous handbag held by a young relative and the very casualness of the rest.

I am off to a party later, unfotunately it seems to be raining at the moment so I hope it will be indoors.

HM has served the country remarkably well, pulled together all the countries of the Commonwealth and has such grace and stamina; long may she reign.

I was brought up by parents who absolutely loathed the royals and everything to do with them. And I can't say that I'm a fan of the minor royals who do so little for their privileged lives, but there seem to be fewer of them these days. However, I have nothing but admiration for the Queen, who hasn't put a foot wrong in all these years, who is still working at 90, who is admired and respected by people across the world. If the monarchs who follow carry on in this vein, I think they're very good value for money. Or perhaps we should have an elected president - Boris, anyone? Tony Blair? Ant and Dec?

And yes, I love a good party too, so Happy Birthday, Your Majesty!

a very happy birthday to her majesty - here's hoping there will be many more.

the monarchy have been part of this country for centuries and I, for one, think that they're absolutely wonderful. they do a great deal for our country one way or another and this should continue for ever.

I consider the whole family to be an awful drain on the country's resources. We could do without them - Charles boys have decent enough jobs and fortunately they are educated well enough to be able to support themselves nowadays although a few of the Queen's grandchildren do as little as they possibly can and are hardly an example to others of their age.
Enough of my rant - don't want to waste any more time but I'd like the Monarchy to just disappear soon!!

I have enormous respect and admiration for this wonderful woman. How many of us will have the stamina at 90 to undertake the duties that she still carries out?
