I was awesome ?

DH's (85 last year) received a text saying "Why don't you wear thinner blouses so I can see your t**s?" Only about 3 people have her mobile number, so we assumed it was a mis-dial, and all, especially said aunt, found it funny.

Live dangerously - what harm can it do?

I've never forgotten a couple of phone calls I had a few years ago from a male voice, asking how many aprons I had. I played him along a bit and he asked what colour, long or short etc. Then made a few comments which indicated that he knew me, which was creepy. Never heard from him again.
I made some enquiries and another lady I know had a similar call. So it seemed to be in our community, I had my suspicions who it was.
There are some weird people about who get their kicks from doing things like this.

Quite a few years ago my mum got a dodgy phone call. The male caller asked her what colour knickers she was wearing. She thought she knew the voice so replied that she had just gotten out of the bath, so wasn't wearing any, then hung up. Next time she saw who she thought it was they didn't react or comment, so she decided it must have been a genuine mucky caller.

I'm with PRINTMISS, enjoy the feeling it gave you (your message made me laugh) but there are so many dodgy scammers out there, delete the number.

I would text back even just to find how and why they thought I was awesome. What did I do that made them say that. I would milk it for all I was worth!

I'm with nonnie, I assume people are genuine until they prove themselves otherwise, with the obvious exception of scamming emails and requests for Skype contacts from women with Eastern European names.
As for the word itself, when my DS who lives in America sent me a personalised card for American Mother's Day , with photos of him, DDiL and the DGCs on it, thanking me for being an awesome mother and grandmother, I was more than happy to accept it as a compliment in the spirit it was intended

Of course, it's always possible that the 'awesome' one deliberately gave the texter a fake number, which just happened to be yours. In which case 'awesome' doesn't want to be contacted, so...........play safe, don't reply and block the number.

I'd google the number first to see if it's on a list of reported scams.

This could be quite embarrassing for the texter if it was someone you knew but they had accidentally sent their msg to you instead of the intended person.

I would text back, what harm can it do? It is most likely to be an innocent mistake and you have nothing to lose. Have you thought that someone could have a new phone and not yet transferred the number.

I recently responded to a voicemail on the home phone because someone had clearly called the wrong number. I would rather think the best of people than assume the worst.

Some of my most interesting phone calls have been wrong numbers. I especially liked the frantic young man who rang me on a Sunday morning wanting instructions on how to roast potatoes. He never did tell me who he was trying to impress but I was happy to give instructions

You could text back "Oh that was nothing out of the ordinary, I'm awesome every night" Seriously that would be foolish follow the advice here and delete. Overused expression "awesome" and used in a very inappropriate ways, particularly by Americans, remember placing an order for food in America and waiter replying "awesome"

PRINTMISS that was precisely why I did nothing. I too am very suspicious of things like this. For all I know the text was being sent to thousands of computer generated numbers and just waiting for a reply - which then builds a database of real numbers. For what? I have no idea, but I don't respond.
I would be particularly suspicious of the text annsixty received - surely anyone has their mum's number saved to their contact list? So how would you make a mistake and text a wrong number?

I received a text recently which said " mum will you pick me up after work" I did reply saying you have the wrong number ,but received about 3 more with the same request so I just ignored them.
Just be awesome for a day?it doesn't happen often,not in my life anyway.

Printmiss has a good point but isn't it sad that we need to think like that? I like the earlier ideas of some love-struck Romeo...but why would he have the wrong number???

I am sorry, if it was from an unknown number, I would treat it with a great deal of suspicion. Delete the message, block the caller (if you can), and hope that if it was someone wanting to contact an "awesome" person, then true love will find a way.

It is possible that someone might have been an awesome friend in a tricky situation.

I text back when a wrong number asked if I'd hung the washing out I got a lovely reply.

Of course you have to text back and let the person know his/her text has gone astray - how could you not?

Get DH to reply saying "You are right. I have thought she is awesome ever since we married XX years ago"

I would text back revealing you weren't the awesome one, so that they could set the record straight with the right person.

It reminds me of Dr Zhivago when at the end of the film Julie Christie was on a bus and her long lost lover was outside in the snow and couldn't attract attention
