After seeing last nights programme about keeping young I realised how unfit I am. They were asking people to cross legs at the ankles and then sit down on the floor without using their hands to balance. Angela Rippon at 71 managed it beautifully but alas when I tried I could only get half way.
I have resolved to alter my diet and take more exercise, but where do you start? I would love to do a dance class but would look very silly I know as would not be able to keep up and I expect wouldn`t last for long before I had to sit down! This morning I tried dancing to the radio and lasted about 3 mins. If anyone has any words of wisdom for me I would be grateful or is there anyone who would like to join me on a quest to eat and live better from a standing start.

I'm 70 and it came out at 62.
I need to lose some weight, so I put in a revised weight at the end (2 stone lower) and it came out at 63 confused

I am sure vacuuming and gardening are counted as exercise, Nfk
Oh, I didn't include those!
Cleaning windows?

I'm confused by the definition of "fasting". I never eat breakfast so go without food for about 13 hours every day. Is that a fast (hopes)grin.?

Jalima Fri 15-Apr-16 17:17:46

Is fasting good or bad though?

It is a load of rubbish as it takes no account of health, previous health, medication, blood pressure etc. It just asks if you attend your check-ups regularly.

And it seems as though if you have smoked in the past they add at least 10 years onto the 'age' no matter how healthily you live now!

Ana Fri 15-Apr-16 17:27:57

You're right, Jalima - it probably isn't aimed at our age group as most of us will have had/are suffering from some debilitating illness or disability of some sort, it comes with the territory.

Jalima Fri 15-Apr-16 17:44:28

I think Angela has so far been very lucky and avoided any serious illnesses.

Some could argue it is because she keeps herself fit, others may put it down to genetics - or possibly only having yourself to worry about.

I am 78 but came out as 105 !! YIKES

Ana Fri 15-Apr-16 17:58:11

aggie! grin

You're not doing too bad though - still alive...

Jalima Fri 15-Apr-16 18:03:21

I am going to pretend I never smoked (it was so long ago that the GP said it doesn't count)

I am getting younger and younger smile
Now 59

Right; if I eat fish and dairy, leave out the wine and buy a Great Dane which I walk every day I will be 42.
(do you get a free face-lift as well?)

Jalima Fri 15-Apr-16 18:04:01

Which means I am the same age as DD1 which is distinctly creepy

mrsjones Fri 15-Apr-16 18:11:30

I am 69 and came out as 82. Feel even more pessimistic now!

Jalima Fri 15-Apr-16 18:19:10

I think feeling pessimistic about the results will make you feel much worse, so just do as I did, tell a few white lies and promise to keep to them in future grin

I reckon the stress of doing those tests and comparing yourself to annoying AR- must put at least 10 years on you - so won't bother?

Tai-chi and Gigung are wonderful to help with ageing, balance, memory, breathing, coordination, etc. Now that my knee has been done- I should be able to stand again for longer periods and go back to it- can't wait.

Gi-gung breathing and exercises have really helped with coping with pain in last 3 weeks, including with the physio pushing me to the limits.

AR did look after her mother when she suffered from dementia- but I reckon not having the massive worries and stresses and demands of bringing up a family may well have played in her favour.

I remember coming face to face with her many years ago when I was shopping. (we were both in our twenties and she was on local tv then)

I thought then how statuesque she was, standing very tall and straight. She gave me a very cold stare grin. I was too startled to say 'Oh, hello, Ange'.

I came out as 47 (real age 61), but I'm not sure why. If the "ever smoked" question adds 10 years, Ana, I could lose another 10 by denying those 10 years when I was known as Fag Ash Lil. And I was honest with the more than 14 units of alcohol a week, even though I'm barely over - they don't let you specify further, so I could be drinking 100 units a week for all they know.

I think it's more telling that I tried to watch my recording of the programme last night and gave up after I'd nodded off and rewound three times grin

75 and my real age 78 it should have asked how old you feel.
