I feel like a domestic goddess!

Some of you will remember that I've had a bit of a funny time of it of late. grin

So, today, I have made a vast quantity of shepherd's pie mix, a chocolate cake for the staff of Mum's CH.
I've also cleaned out the really sticky cupboard where I store oils and the silly narrow tray cupboard.

I feel really virtuous!!

That's probably it now till next year!! grin

I am halfway through turning out a cupboard. And there can be no worse place to be in the world.

My daughter once described me as 'a stranger to Ajax'. I pointed out that we had moved on to Cif - cheeky madam!

I've never had any desire to be a domestic goddess ...as , once the status has been achieved , you have to keep it up ....OR PEOPLE NOTICE AND COMMENT ! So I am a very good tidier-upper , and find that gets me by !

I've had an ongoing problem with double sided tape! A year ago I stuck it on the windowsill to stop our cat getting tangled up in the blinds. Well today we are getting new blinds and i thought I could peel the unsightly tape off. NO!!! It has been a nightmare. I have been spraying WD40 on, and scraping with a wallpaper scraper. It has taken about 4 hours but at last it's all off. Never again will I use this awful stuff.

I did purge my underwear drawer, but a domestic goddess would have done the same to the wardrobes. Instead I put the clothes on thinner hangers, then i didn't need to decimate them

I shouldn't have read this thread late last night, as I saw that Jings had bought a steam mop. So, I googled Argos and had a look, then just had to buy one. Am going out this afternoon to pick it up. Then, look out kitchen floor. grin. Jings, please don't go buying any more bargains and telling us about them.

I am a bit overly conscientious about cleaning the house but I rarely do more than dust the skirting boards with the Dyson attachment. The other day I washed all of the skirtings in the house and, yes, I did feel like a domestic goddess and the house looked brilliant. Now I am sorry I did it as I have set myself up to do it again and it tooks ages.

Domestic goddess is something that happens when you are expecting visitors. A swirling dervish on amphetamines is the housework that we do when they turn up unannounced ! ! ! (In my house anyway )

Using marigolds. I am very late to the party on that one. I largely didnt used to bother but now I do. I feel much more "in the zone" and cleaning larger surfaces seems a lot easier with big gloves[I always buy the bigger ones as small sizes seem very small].

For the first time since we moved in 2.5 years ago there is nothing on the stairs. No letters waiting to be posted, no odds and ends that should be picked up and taken upstairs, no books waiting to be taken to the charity shop... It can't last.
Yesterday when out delivering political leaflets, I say lots of were 19th C. letter boxes. Many in need of a coat of paint. I had a strange urge to to whip out the Dura-Glit and spruce them up. Channelling my grandmother.

I got a steam mop from Argos on Sunday. Only £19.99. Half price. Makes washing kitchen floor really easy. No kneeling and getting up, or wringing out floor cloth.

My house is crying out for a visit from a domestic goddess - it's long since given up expecting me to fit this description. I feel pretty pleased with myself these days if I can find a space to put my cup of tea down on the coffee table.

Getting any housework done at all makes me feel like a domestic goddess! It is getting harder and harder. Muddy pup, sick cat, untidy husband, messy GCs all create permanent mayhem. How I wish I could get my floors mopped ?

Actually at the moment I am in Surrey helping DD1 move. Even with mountains of boxes and 3 children's mess here, it still looks more in control than mine!

DH said on Sunday. You like living in a tip. IMO It is a tip but it's our tip . I stress the our.

Luckygirl I blame mine on my short height as well as my short sight grin

Nothing makes me feel like a domestic goddess! - I do not qualify at all! smile OH always says (kindly) that I have a high filth threshold - what he means is that I am a bit of a slut - I blame it on my short sight - if I cannot see the dust or cobwebs then they do not exist!

kittylester Tue 15-Mar-16 15:03:01

I play that game too jane - strangely, I always get jings right!!grin

janeainsworth Tue 15-Mar-16 14:56:04

kitty one of my favourite games is Guess-who-started-the-thread-on-GN and today is a good day grinwink
I set the bar quite low for feeling like a domestic goddess. Any of the following qualify:
Going round the sitting room first thing in the morning removing MrA's old apple cores/banana skins removing yesterday's newspaper, plumping up cushions, checking that chairs/sofa are parallel to/at 90degrees to the fireplace, opening the curtains and refreshing the flowers (if any).
Getting up to date with my accounts/correspondence
Knowing what we will be having for dinner that night
Having no backlog of washing/ironing
Sorting out a cupboard
grin

Tch - did it again - I swear I pressed the 'o' twice!

Anniebach Tue 15-Mar-16 14:39:21

Can one be a domestic goddess if one writes lists of chores to be done ?

Imperfect27 Tue 15-Mar-16 14:39:18

Ha ha - I might even get the hovering done if I do grin.

grannylyn65 Tue 15-Mar-16 14:28:00

Imperfect can hover all she likes imo !!!?
