I know this is urghh - but has anyone ever dropped the dinner on the kitchen floor and scraped it up and served it after??

Clean floor hmm (washed yesterday, slippers on it only, no pets) a whole meal dropped between oven and worktop shock.

Will we get worms, food poisoning, die ??

Many many years ago I bought a large frozen turkey for Christmas. Our house was tiny and the only place I could leave it to defrost was in the bath.
What a good idea. It was still in the polythene.
Next door's cat got in and I found her in the bath with the turkey eating chunks out of the turkey leg.
I cut the leg off and roasted the rest of the bird as normal and nobody was any wiser. There was no risk I thought because the polythene was still intact except for the chewed up leg. Calamity averted!

Well technoNan1943 after following the "Eating Raw Pasta" thread, food on the floor pales by comparison to what went in our mouths as children grin.
I think I've found my people on this site smile sunshine

I wouldn't allow anyone to eat anything from my floor its too dirty, I don't clean it very often unless their is a spill or a cat has been sick.

The drunk cat story has to win 1st prize, closely followed by the Jack Russell dragging a giant chicken home from the butchers! What a brilliant thread! grin

Not something I have ever done but I remember back in the seventies, when I was about 10,my mum dropped a plate with 12 cooked fish fingers on,intended for my 2 older brothers. She just rinsed them under the hot tap, stuck them back under the grill to re-heat and dished them up to them.shock

As a very poor student I spent some time on a project at the local vet college where some experimental work was carried out on chickens. (Don't judge .. it was a long time ago)
I was offered a chicken for nothing, had to catch and pluck it myself and cut off the gangrenous wing and one leg.

Only told DH after he'd eaten and enjoyed it. He wasn't happy but he's still here 40 years later.

My only cat related tale ( about food) involves a glass of water.I usually have a glass of water on the go, and it normally ends up sitting on a kitchen worktop.A few years ago, we came home from shopping, and seeing my half empty glass of water in the kitchen I picked it up to drink it, and caught sight of tell tale fur on the edge of the glass! I then realised, that our cat had probably always been drinking from my glass, wherever I left it... And he found it.Yuk.

Hilarious! what naughty ( or rather behaving naturally) dogs and cats, and even more naughty humans!????

Ana Wed 17-Feb-16 20:53:27

Oh no, that's made me feel a bit sick...his tongue must have been all over the fish base even if he didn't eat it! shock

Angharad56 Wed 17-Feb-16 20:49:31

I went into the kitchen to find the dog up on the worktop finishing off the mashed potato on top of a fish pie destined for our tea. He had made such a neat job I was able to rustle up some replacement mash and noone was any the wiser. I shall never go to heaven...

A long time ago I dropped a large sherry trifle on the kitchen floor. I managed to scoop most of it up (but not what was touching the floor) and put it back in the dish, covered it with cream and served it. The cat came in and ate some of what was on the floor as I was cleaning it up.

There was a lot of sherry in it and it seemed that the cat got drunk. He went outside, rushed round and round in circles on the lawn then fell over. He lay there for about an hour ( we did check to see if he was alive) then got up and, kind of sheepishly, slunk off into the bushes.

When I was newly married, I cooked a roast dinner for my family-came in to find the cat gnawing the roast beef. I carefully cut off the toothmarks, and served the rest. No problem!

Not dropped food as such but my aunty was at a childs birthday party and she saw the 5 yr old boy pick his nose and wipe his finger all over his iced birthday cake. She was the only person who was looking at the time. She never had a chance to tell her husband and at the end of the party everyone at a piece of the cake except her.
She told her husband on the way home and he didn't speak to her for a week for letting him eat the snot trailed cake!

Ana Wed 17-Feb-16 17:09:04

I thought it was the 5 second rule. 10 seconds is really quite a long time...grin

Once we had a bring a dish meal for the extended family and my neice brought a big choc pudding (cake with choc buttercream on it. ) When trying to get this out of the tin she brought it in i dropped it upsidedown on the floor. Everyone saw , pr was told about it. The buttercream layer was so thick i scraped the top off and served it but only i and one of the children ate it (we were both fine!) ive never lived this down - every familt pArty my neice says Dont drop it!

mischief Wed 17-Feb-16 16:18:32

Did you tell the person you were serving it to, that it was a rescued meal? Oh and it's been proved that there is no such thing as the 10 second rule. If you drop it, the bugs have got it. wink

A few years ago my dog pinched a large pork chop from under the grill about to be cooked and took it into his basket. I felt very guilty but I wrestled it off him, washed it and grilled it (never did tell my husband.)

years ago I found a whole raw chicken on our sofa (Jack Russell had stolen it via the village butcher's back door!). He had dragged it all the way home. It was a huge free range chicken. We were very hard up. I debated long and hard and reckoned that a curry was the answer. So I washed it under the tap to remove all the grit etc. Checked what temperature chicken has to cooked for to kill all baddies and then curried it. It was very good and my mother in law had seconds. It took another 15 years until I admitted to her the history of the chicken - she laughed but I'm not certain she would have done at the time!

This is one very good reason that I hate open-plan kitchens. Drop the Sunday roast on the floor in one of them and you have no chance. At least with the closed variety no-one knows what you're up to.

Oh dear a similar thing happened, the day before xmas eve, my cooker broke, called out the gasboard as we could smell gas, he cam and condemed my cooker the oven not the top. So I rang my sister up in tears, what was I going to do, no way would anyone deliver before xmas it was impossible,I had my turkey and piece of beef my sausages wrapped in bacon, my roasties, how the heck was I going to manage, so my sister said she would come up and collect my meat and cook it for me, the lady next door said she would cook my roasties with hers.
Anyway after their had been cooked my turkey and my beef and the bacon and sausages, my sister brought them back on christmas eve, so I put them on the dinning room table whilst I went to see her out, and when I went back in the dinning room the dog had got the beef and there wasn't much left, I took it off the dog and it was a case of if I am not having any beef, or my sausages then the dog was NOT having what was left, I couldn't use it, with the Dog having a good slice or 2 nearly half I would say, I wrapped in Newspaper then carrier bags and put it in the outside bin so the dog couldn't get it. The turkey was fine, he hadn't touched it, he had never done anything like that before, he never got the chance again, because if I was doing food the dog was either in the lounge or upstairs with the kids.
