I have come to calm down from the mayhem in Ambridge at present. It's getting steadily worse.

We get a harr here as well. As I'm above the Bristol Channel I look down on it. It looks like fluffy white blanket between me and Wales

We are 10 miles from the sea but on a Kyle (Google says that is a strait, but here it is more like an inlet which gets narrower until a river runs into it.

We look down on the Kyle and all afternoon I have been watching the harr roll in until everything below us has disappeared but we are still in still bright sunshine, most weird.

I'm also feeling chuffed at the transformation to our garden. I've cleared away all the dead leaves and have used the shears to cut some of the rockery right back. The fresh air and sunlight will encourage new growth. The Marsh Marigolds are blooming. Also, the flowers with big tough leaves (Elephant ears?)
I like the fact that you enclose a "donation" when writing to your grandchildren. It makes sense. I remember my Nana giving me a small bride doll at Easter. Whenever I visited her, I often had some extra pocket money. A half crown was a princely sum when I was a child.

A harr is a low sea mist. Sometimes it rolls in and hangs about a bit. The view through the window couldn't be more tranquil. A cloudless sky and sea that has barely a ripple to break the glassiness. It's on such occasions that we sometimes catch a glimpse of the otter.

Rory is patiently waiting for Tortoiseshell cat to join him on the mat. He appears to enjoy her company. As for Tortoiseshell cat - she always approaches and greets Rory like a long lost favourite pal. Rory wears his expression.

We'll be visiting the care home in the morning. When I return I shall pop in to catch up with our lovely Kitcheners.

I'm sure you have all been on tenterhooks wondering how the 'beef' search went You can all rest easy - we purchased one so large we will either be eating leftovers for some time or I may have to invite a few friends and neighbours who are alone to join us.

I love a full table - in this case it might be tables as we make 10 on our own .

And let's be honest , if you're doing a roast for 10 that might as well be 15 or 16

We have some friends from our military days who have left the forces and are alone . They're good company, tolerate the little ones well and ALWAYS offer to clear the table . So Himself can call round and muster the troops !!

I am feeling very satisfied with our work in the garden this week - pruning done, dead leaves tidied away, lawn manicured, and hordes of beautiful daffodils brightening the whole scene. It looks at its peak of the year!

We have a family get together on Sunday so I have written Easter cards and put a banknote in one each for our four DGC. They are not big Easter egg fans so this way can either save the money for something special or have a splurge on what takes their fancy. I can remember how good it was to receive cash from visiting relations when I was their age!

I'm in the mood to tidy the rockery. Hey ho! As bags would say. Keeps me out of mischief.

Tizliz The oyster catchers on the beach across the way are giving off loud alarm signals. This means that a gull must be lurking nearby. Our daffodils are in full bloom. I've a jug full in the sitting room. Such a beautiful scent when I pass them.

Sorry I am so behind with all your news. Packing up the house plus taking care of DGD every day does not leave me much spare time.

Condolences, soop on your neighbour's death. It is always sad to lose a friend even though one can be grateful their burden of suffering has been lifted.

Beautiful day here and two lots of washing out on the line - think I am qualified to post in the Domestic Godess thread.

I really want a trip to the garden centre as the pots are looking very sad. No daffodils even in bud yet and pansies are all leaves, think it must be the wet winter we have had. It is nice to see some of the shrubs just starting to bud and the woodpecker is busy. The oyster catchers are back which is a good sign of the weather improving.

I haven't been watching Crufts. I agree that rescue/help dogs deserve recognition. The loyalty (and affection) displayed by such gentle creatures, is priceless to their owners.

Crafting Label reads "Do NOT take with alchohol"... I've also to cover up when in sunshine! I'm not well pleased. MacSporran does have a tendency to fret unduly whenever I'm a bit out of sorts. I am convinced that the antibiotics are surplus to requirements ...however, I shall do as I'm told.
As for the on-going colorectal saga. I'm hoping that I shall be told that a further repair would not be to my advantage. Thereon I shall have no option but to live with the complaint and count my blessings. Backwards and forwards to hospitals in Glasgow (to no advantage) is somewhat depressing.

anno I like the idea of a granny flat. Should I find myself alone, I too would enjoy having family close, whilst retaining my independence.

NanaandGrampy I think that the anticipation of taking a trip is a special part of the whole experience. I'm loving every moment knowing that we have booked our flight to see "not-so-wee man"...the countdown has a way to go yet. I shall savour the slow build-up of excitement.

That is lovely news, Alea. I am so glad to know that you and your DH are to be spared the regular ordeal of transport to, from and in London.
Mine often turn the tables on me and I'm always grateful. I've had lovely holidays with DS1 and family and we're to have a week in Normandy this summer. They would like me to have a granny flat when they manage to find a suitable house, but this hasn't happened yet and I'm in no hurry to up sticks. Like yours, mine are 24/7 people with demanding jobs and, of course, children to ferry around to their various activities.

Getting older isn't for softies, is it?

Knowing that Jilly Cooper is a greyhound lady, I was hopeful and then delighted with her choice. But all of those lovely old or rescue or "help" dogs deserved to win too. What a difference they make to our lives.
I would like to share something in confidence if I may. You know I had decided to book a car to take us to hospital appointments in London? Well, DD1 and SIL have said they would like to pick up the tab for these trips as a present to us and to know we are safe. She said if they lived nearer they would be able to give practical help (actually, they are on the go 24/7) but this is in lieu.
Absolutely bowled over at this v generous gesture. How do others feel about the tables being turned in this way? Yes, they are high earners with a comfortable lifestyle, but it is a first for us to be at the other end of financial "help" It is often easier to give than to receive isn't it, but we have accepted graciously !!

I hope your medication gets that cough under control quickly. Its annoying when you start to feel better except for the cough that goes on and on !!

My trip to the hairdresser was good, she's known me about 20 years now so we chat about family and friends and its generally a relaxing visit. I too used to go every 6 weeks but now only go when I have developed that tell tale sheepdog fringe and when DGS3 usually looks at me in the wind and says 'Oh Nana - your hair' !

My brother and SiL are currently doing a 3000 mile road trip in America and I woke to great pictures of Vegas and the Hoover Dam this morning. Im getting itchy feet- and counting down the days to our next trip.

pompa when you have a problem like yours and you know something is wrong, it is only natural to be worried. As you say it's good to know you are in the system and that your kidney is working fine. Please do hang around the kitchen and let us know how you are getting on.

Soop these colorectal consultants must be really busy. My DH was supposed to see his 2 weeks after his last colonoscopy. 5 months later we have finally been seen. All is ok thank goodness. I can only hope that if it wasn't we would have been seen sooner. Hope you get your appointment soon and that cough improves. Are you allowed a wee dram to smooth the cough? Perhaps you should have one as well Galen even if you are on the mend. I think I'd better have one too, just to be on the safe side

pompa don't apologise, if you are in pain and stressed then it is bad. You can't grade illnesses. Whinge away, it helps to voice it.

Good news. Doc agreed that the scan I had was pretty useless at diagnosing the most likely cause of my pain (obstruction , or stones). They do U/S scan because it is quick and would show up some problems. All the bloods were good so the kidney is working fine, but possibly stressed.
He is referring me urgently to the renal unit for further investigation, which is the best option I hoped for. (although he did warn me that urgent may be 4 weeks - but at least I'm in the system)

Sorry to go on about my problems when others have far worse, but it makes me feel better to put it down.

Doctor listened to my rattling chest and took temperature. In view of the fact that the last time he treated me for something similar (and sent me to hospital with pneumonia) I'm to take a course of Doxycycline. Blame MacSporran
He has also tried to phone the secretary of the colo-rectal consultant. He did say that since the new hospital opened in Glasgow, he has to constantly chase up referrals. Phone call was put on hold. He's therefore to email, yet again. I fully understand that the NHS is under severe pressure. My condition is not life threatening. He believes that I'm in a long pipe-line. When the hernia was first "fixed," I was warned that the repair may not be successful. I did enjoy a few months of blessed relief. Doctor agrees that it is a delicate and distressing condition but I'm fast approaching the conclusion that I shall have to and bear it.

Tizliz you are so right there. Anybody who has met me will recognise the long legs up to here, the athletic physique, the intelligent expression and the keen eyes of the sight hound.
Then when they have met Grace, they will look at me and wonder why I don't have a rotund little dachshund !
