Bother the weather

I seem to be very lucky where I live in south Cheshire. I am above any flood risk and North Wales tends to take a off lot of the rain before it gets to us. So far the gales have either been to the north of Manchester or down in the south.

Another nice day here in Leicestershire- time to clean out the pots on the patio I think.

While I agree the weather outside is frightful.... isn't it better than snow and ice?

The weather here was very obliging. It was fine when I went to work and find when I came home. It was absolutely lashing it down at playtime in fact the wind made the rain horizontal, but I wasn't on playground duty so I didn't mind. Most children stayed in, but some rushed round in the rain shrieking with laughter. I worry a bit about the bills for heating but there are only so many layers you can wear and be comfortable.

Congratulations Icy . I too love the name - DD3 is named Imogen, so I am biased!

I've always liked the name Imogen too, congratulations, Icyalittle - I probably first came across it as the name of one of Enid Blyton's daughters. As a child I thought that they must be the luckiest girls in the world. How wrong I was!

Congratulations on the arrival of Imogen (I do like that name!). However, when I was young and read Enid Blyton's autobiography I thought it was pronounced Immoggun (one of her daughters was named Imogen.
And I feel very old, having not long ago become a Great-Great-Aunt for the third time

Slightly different, my neighbours are having work done on their house and have a skip in the front garden. Neither the builders or the neighbours have got the sense to put something heavy on top of the large pieces of card-board and waste tarpaulin and the racket from this stuff being blown all over the street and flapping about is just annoying. Why are people so dense!

Here in NE Scotland we've had blue skies and brilliant winter sunshine both yesterday and today - no storm in sight. Making the most of it!

It was bloomin awful here in Devon! You couldnt have hung washing out........it would have blown clean away! Seafront closed.....trees down...really scary

So glad you kept your washing Auntyflo. Yesterday here, North Hampshire, it was blowing a gale and very heavy showers. Today it is sunny and calm and the washing is blowing sedately in the breeze.

But on the bright side for me, I have a brand new great niece born safely this morning whose name is - of course - Imogen!

While on weather topic saw news reporter on news last night in very high winds putting his life and others in danger do they have to be there when they are saying to us stay safe ?

North appears to be having a well deserved break only showers today actually seen some sun and blue skies hope it gives flooded areas a chance to clear up hope to go out with grandaughter for a walk after lunch she will still find plenty of muddy puddles ??

sun's out in dorset too at the moment. and that awful wind has died down.

torrential rain has meant that the local rivers [stour and avon] have burst their banks so the surrounding flood plain is ......... flooded!!!

driving is difficult in the torrential rain we had the other day and my wipers couldn't cope with it even on double speed .......... while the car was being buffeted [or should that be buffetted?] by the wind.

i'm hoping that the respite will be longer than a day - we could all do with a couple of weeks without rain so that we can all dry out [and hang the washing out again].

The interminable rain, grey, cold and wind are getting me down, I admit. I realise I am lucky not to have been flooded out like the poor souls in the north but the relentlessness of the dreary weather is wearing.

Yesterday I donned wellies, Thinsulate gloves and a thick anorak for my daily walk. I couldn't even get the brolly up because of the wind and the horizontal rain and resigned myself to everything being sodden. I had to get the hairdryer out on my return.

Ah me! For a bit of sun!

Its dark grey, totally overcast and miserable as sin here ( and that's only DH this morning )

It is a gift of a day today, down here in Devon! Such a contrast to yesterday, when the wind was howling and the rain lashing down - the front windows are salt encrusted, though we are a mile or so from the sea. Lots of roads were flooded.

But now, the sky is blue, there is no wind and I'm off out while I can!

A pair of size 10 jeans landed in our next door neighbours' garden in the gales yesterday and I was very chuffed when he came to our back door to see if they were mine. If only! (Turned out they were our neighbour's on the other side)

Oh dear, whitewave that's not good.

The wind blew over our garden seat which had a canopy - that in turn trashed next doors fence so that will be costly.

Or needing a wee !! ?

Imagine having a plane to catch
