can I make a plea that people read the thread before posting.

In the last couple of days I have seen a few threads where people have either repeated previous posts with no acknowledgement or asked questions that have been asked and answered previously. I realise that in fast moving threads it can happen but im not talking about those.

Obviously, this is a greater sin when it is my posts that have been ignored! grin

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:31:42

Yes, I understand why, but don't know how to get round it, I noticed I had typed about four or five posts in a row on one thread, people must think 'oh, bored now'.

I suppose I could cut and paste each time and add it all at the end.

Thank you, it's OK, I am going to lie down in a darkened room now

Indinana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:26:07

I think I get you now Jalima - you're reading posts on page 1 and there is the "Add your message here" box at the bottom, so you post your reply. Then onto the next page and you do the same, and so on.
But the "Add your message here" box can't put your post on the page you're on, because that page is already full.
It's not that your post 'disappears', it's just added at the end. The reason other people's replies are on the relevant page is because they reply while that page is still the current page. Does that make sense?

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:23:14

Unless they're on here all day, but there is a world out there grin
sorry

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:21:45

If I go to page one of a long thread which I haven't read before and see a post I want to reply to, the 'add your message here' box is at the bottom of page 1. I type the reply to that because if I go through and read something else on a different page I want to reply to, my first typed reply has disappeared.

How does anyone else do it? confused

Indinana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:19:32

Oh sorry, X posts blush

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:19:17

Perhaps I am not GN computer savvy

Indinana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:18:55

Anyway, how can you reply on pages that are already full? It's not possible, is it? confused

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:18:14

No, I think it's my brain
I need a brew

What I was trying to say was that if the thread is long and you read all of it before replying then you (well me anyway) may have forgotten half the posts before getting to the last page and posting an opinion and therefore could repeat the same view as someone else.

So replying post by post on each page means that if you (I) reply to more than one post each on separate pages you (I) end up with a string of posts at the end if the thread is long
confused ? Me too

Ana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:11:26

do you, not to

Ana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:10:52

I don't understand it either!

Why to have to reply on every page, and why do you have to cut and paste...? confused

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Feb-16 15:01:34

jalima I haven't got a clue what that post is all about. confused I think my brain's gone funny. shock

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 14:52:33

read the thread before posting.
wot - all of it?

ps I only read the OP before I posted that!
The thing is if I want to reply I have to reply on each page if I'm cutting and pasting, so end up with a string of posts which looks as if I'm saying "and another thing"
"and another thing"
"and another thing"
(cut and pasted there, did you notice?)

Indinana Sat 06-Feb-16 14:37:59

Do agree kitty, very frustrating. It's happened to me a few times and when I was a newbie it could make me feel a bit paranoid - you know, "oh, they're deliberately overlooking my earlier comment shock - what have I done to upset them?" I've 'grown a pair' since then grin

kittylester Sat 06-Feb-16 14:15:19

Blimey! Had a busy morning and didn't really think this would have so many responses!

This started because some one asked a factual question that had been asked and i had answered just a few posts before.

And on the quotes thread only one person who liked the same thing mentioned that it had been mentioned before. A simple ' I like xx too' would be polite.

But as I said I'm in a funny mood!

Synonymous Sat 06-Feb-16 14:10:34

Nelliemoser grin

Galen Sat 06-Feb-16 14:05:31

Nellie?
Will that do?

Nelliemoser Sat 06-Feb-16 14:01:26

replied I am no good at proof reading.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Feb-16 14:00:44

Well I'm saying nothing. So there!

Nelliemoser Sat 06-Feb-16 13:59:19

Does it really matter if your comment does not get an acknowledgement? If you are just adding putting your views in.
I do have to confess to often not reading enough of the previous posts.

If you are asking for advice or support yes it does matter.

You would never get any GNing done at all if you relpied to everyone.

I shall be really offended if no one acknowledges me now.
angry wink

Synonymous Sat 06-Feb-16 13:37:38

kitty I too have wondered at some posts and whether the thread has been read before posting.
Alea Annsixtyand Anya you have both proved the point about cross posting as well as the "I just said that" grin so I guess we just have to try to be more observant! I have even gone to the trouble to copy my draft and get rid of it so that I can check I haven't been 'pipped to the post' and even then in the space of time it takes to repost my draft and hit the button 'it' has happened! confused
Perhaps we should just take 'as read' apologies all round? smile and just have a brew cupcake

NanaandGrampy Sat 06-Feb-16 13:31:23

Ana take your point totally .

Personally, I'm not sure I'd mind . I don't mind on FB. But I'm sure some people would care greatly so best to avoid I guess .

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Feb-16 13:29:17

grin

Ana Sat 06-Feb-16 13:28:29

Just think how mortified you'd be if you never got a 'like'...

NanaandGrampy Sat 06-Feb-16 13:24:47

I'm sure the like button isn't too technical a challenge for the powers that be and I take on board your thoughts about it encouraging competitiveness .

I'm a simple soul , what you see is what you get and you could wade through my deepest thoughts and not get your ankles wet !! So I had not even considered the use of a like button for the reasons you describe .

I just want to show support for posts I like, agree with or for those piste where to write an additional post would distract from the original ( a bit as described earlier in the thread) .

Not going to happen then ! smile

Anya Sat 06-Feb-16 13:15:39

While we're in the subject of GNHQ why do Mumsnet still get 'thoughts from the forums' and we just get a boring old newsletter that most of us delete without reading?
