can I make a plea that people read the thread before posting.

In the last couple of days I have seen a few threads where people have either repeated previous posts with no acknowledgement or asked questions that have been asked and answered previously. I realise that in fast moving threads it can happen but im not talking about those.

Obviously, this is a greater sin when it is my posts that have been ignored! grin

Indinana Sat 06-Feb-16 14:37:59

Do agree kitty, very frustrating. It's happened to me a few times and when I was a newbie it could make me feel a bit paranoid - you know, "oh, they're deliberately overlooking my earlier comment shock - what have I done to upset them?" I've 'grown a pair' since then grin

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 14:52:33

read the thread before posting.
wot - all of it?

ps I only read the OP before I posted that!
The thing is if I want to reply I have to reply on each page if I'm cutting and pasting, so end up with a string of posts which looks as if I'm saying "and another thing"
"and another thing"
"and another thing"
(cut and pasted there, did you notice?)

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Feb-16 15:01:34

jalima I haven't got a clue what that post is all about. confused I think my brain's gone funny. shock

Ana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:10:52

I don't understand it either!

Why to have to reply on every page, and why do you have to cut and paste...? confused

Ana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:11:26

do you, not to

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:18:14

No, I think it's my brain
I need a brew

What I was trying to say was that if the thread is long and you read all of it before replying then you (well me anyway) may have forgotten half the posts before getting to the last page and posting an opinion and therefore could repeat the same view as someone else.

So replying post by post on each page means that if you (I) reply to more than one post each on separate pages you (I) end up with a string of posts at the end if the thread is long
confused ? Me too

Indinana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:18:55

Anyway, how can you reply on pages that are already full? It's not possible, is it? confused

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:19:17

Perhaps I am not GN computer savvy

Indinana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:19:32

Oh sorry, X posts blush

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:21:45

If I go to page one of a long thread which I haven't read before and see a post I want to reply to, the 'add your message here' box is at the bottom of page 1. I type the reply to that because if I go through and read something else on a different page I want to reply to, my first typed reply has disappeared.

How does anyone else do it? confused

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:23:14

Unless they're on here all day, but there is a world out there grin
sorry

Indinana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:26:07

I think I get you now Jalima - you're reading posts on page 1 and there is the "Add your message here" box at the bottom, so you post your reply. Then onto the next page and you do the same, and so on.
But the "Add your message here" box can't put your post on the page you're on, because that page is already full.
It's not that your post 'disappears', it's just added at the end. The reason other people's replies are on the relevant page is because they reply while that page is still the current page. Does that make sense?

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:31:42

Yes, I understand why, but don't know how to get round it, I noticed I had typed about four or five posts in a row on one thread, people must think 'oh, bored now'.

I suppose I could cut and paste each time and add it all at the end.

Thank you, it's OK, I am going to lie down in a darkened room now

Elegran Sat 06-Feb-16 15:32:17

So why not read the rest of the thread before you start your reply? Or why not highlight and copy the half reply that you have already written, then after you have read the rest, paste that bit into the reply box and finish what you want to say?

All your partial replies will end up together in the same place anyway, in a row after all previous posts. They don't go on the page you are looking at when you answer.

Ana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:33:36

D'you mean you copy the replies you've written to each page and then paste them all in one long post at the end?

Ana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:35:52

Oh, several crossed posts! grin

Darkened room sounds tempting...

Jalima Sat 06-Feb-16 15:36:31

Yes, I will cut and paste as I go Elegran
So why not read the rest of the thread before you start your reply
because if it's a long thread I'd have to go back to that page to reply otherwise I can't remember exactly what someone said, and if there is more than one .....
and they did end up in a row, which looked daft hmm
oh heck give in now.

kitty I will try to read the whole thread but can't promise to remember it!

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Feb-16 15:57:20

Oh. I understand now. But that is a very odd way of doing things. grin

Try not having pages. Have just one long thread. I hate pages. Can't cope with them.I Get lost too easily.

Indinana Sat 06-Feb-16 15:57:57

1. Write your reply on page 1, but don't post it.
2. Cut and paste it onto page 2, and add your responses from that page, but don't post it.
3. Cut and paste the new, longer reply onto the next page, and add any responses you may have to posts on that page, but don't post it.

Repeat step 3. until the the last page then post. Bingo! All in one post! smile

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Feb-16 15:58:25

If it's a long thread, just read three or four posts back. That's what I do.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Feb-16 15:59:07

And I have latest post at top of thread. Anyone else?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Feb-16 15:59:52

That would be too complicated for me.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Feb-16 16:00:29

(Indinana's way)

Anya Sat 06-Feb-16 16:00:35

Jalima you've made me giggle.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Feb-16 16:01:21

But I can see it would work. Cba-ness would cut in though.
