Pushed for time or just lazy?

I always feel guilty if I have gone down in my dressing-gown for breakfast before I have showered and dressed.
It's always a day when the postman or a neighbour knocks on the door early.

Likewise I feel guilty if I eat anything in the street, even a sweet, as it resulted in a punishment from school if you were found eating in the street in school uniform. Old habits die hard.

Remember quilted dressing gowns? They were called housecoats, I think. I always felt really slovenly answering the door in mine. Not only was it an unflattering shape but it usually had splatters of grease down the front as sausages used to explode in those days

The only answer is. Lazy, slovenly, Jeremy Kyle people. PJ's and a fag hanging out of their mouths.
I wouldn't even put the bins out without been dressed.

Have these women no self-respect? I'm with the headmistress on this one. How many of these children even get breakfast before they go into school?

AlgeswifeVal DH had to run down the road in his dressing gown the other morning as our food waste bin was bowling merrily down the road in the wind - after it had been emptied!

Perhaps the children get breakfast at the school breakfast club.

I bet a lot of these so-called pyjamas are actually 'leisure wear' which I read recently is selling like hot cakes. What's not to like about unstructured, easy to wear cotton garments? My mum's generation, still in boned corsets, stockings and suspenders, would have cheered.

Our local primary school is the opposite of the pj wearing one as the mothers are all dressed up to the nines in the latest fashions, killer heels, full make-up, hair newly coiffed. My DD-in-law used to complain like anything as she felt (wrongly) that she had to compete.

No tools I'm afraid it's pj's not leisure wear.

On the pj issue, it's along the lines of tv presenters not wearing a tie on serious political programmes - call me old fashioned but this just doesn't show any respect to their audience or interviewees.

I must be of the same generation as Jalima. Totally agree about going out in nightwear, apart from anything else we sweat in the night so it's not nice. I too have inhibitions about eating in the street, school rules.

hallgreen I agree with you about the overnight sweat thing. I can just about get why someone would be out and about in clean, fresh pyjamas and rollers. But not those that have been slept in. There's a whole new level of skankiness about that.

I love the image somewhere upthread of the silk pyjama-clad lady in sunspecs and lippy. I really get that-it's about style and making a statement.

Different from someone with no teeth in, rocking a pair of creased, stained, sweat-ridden old jimmies with old ugg slippers.

But then I'm someone who always tarted up for the school run....

I regularly do the school run for
3 different schools and have never seen a parent in PJs. All I can say is it must reflect something about the standards acceptable around that school.

Poor HT she must be facing an upward struggle in more areas than one. But pleased to hear she only had one message of complaint against many of support from parents.

Am off now to do school run, dressed and washed.

The not eating in the street thing has made me smile, as a teenager I had a friend whose mother wouldn't allow her to eat outside. she obeyed her mothers rule, but if her mother had ever found out about the things she did do in the street, oh boy!

I would think that even if you are running late you could skip the wash and put your outdoor clothes on and shower when you get back home.

This is also about self esteem though and many people who have probably never had a job and never will because of poor education, a lack of hope, self esteem, aspiration etc. Stopped caring about themselves years ago.

There is truth in your post Nelliemoser, about low aspiration and self esteem. I believe there is also an element of "up yours jack" if I can be forgiven such an unpleasant phrase. It has the smack of rebellion and "you can't tell me what to do" about it.

I know I'm being over protective but I really don't like seeing pre teen or early teenage girls wandering about in their pj's either.

The thing about eating in the street was that the powers of school and the punishments were inflicted even when away from the school premises! Presumably you were bringing the school into disrepute by eating an apple at the bus stop.

There was always a prefect around to dob you in.
I never did that when I became a prefect.

We were supposed to wear our uniform (including hat!) up until 5 o'clock on school days if we went anywhere after school. I was never sure if that still applied if you'd gone home first...

Can you imagine trying to enforce those rules today?

It was a DM article and they seem to love shocked exaggeration.
My mother and father never came downstairs in their nightwear, so us 4 children followed their example.

My resolution this year has been to get up, make tea and spend time in pyjamas and smart dressing gown before preparing myself for the day by showering and dressing.
It makes me feel decadant, and at my age I enjoy it.

I always walked DS to school, nearly a mile, both of us washed, dressed and breakfasted, he was never late.

Mum worked when I was at grammer school so from 10/11 years old I got myself up, made breakfast, washed, dressed and was out in time for the long walk to the bus stop for 8 am.

If my ways are old fashioned I still have pride in them. A sense of self respect is a good thing to have.
