Going slightly off-thread, in our family we used to call them (ie press-studs, poppers) SNAPS. Did anyone else do this? We were a London family although my mum had been transplanted from Yorkshire. Perhaps SNAPS was a Northern term? I know all my London friends called them press-studs.

Badenkate, I think they were called Poppets. I remember having them and swapping them.

This is a confusing thread! Is it about gay MPs, plastic popper beads, duvet covers or the fastenings on babygros? I'm coonfused (or even CONfused!)
BTW my mum called those plastic beads Poppets.

Yes they were called poppets ,I had lots of them in different colours,my mum had them too,they looked like plastic pearls

Oh yes Badenkate ........poppers......plastic beads that popped together to make necklaces...........I'd forgotten all about those. Very therapeutic and satisfying......loved making them.

My OP was a joke and referred to the new use of the word to describe this drug.

When I heard the initial news item I actually thought they were talking about the fastening type of popper and wondered why gay men favoured them!

Feel as if this thread is slightly beyond me but definitely prefer buttons and button holes on duvet covers when you can get them as poppers can just come off still fastened if you pull too hard on them.

I know why and how it is used ...worked in pharmacy many years....just wondered if that was what lucky was getting at
