Saw this one on mums net and hope it has not been done before, if so apologies. Where would you be married if it had to be where you met your partner. It made me smile as I met DH will working with his sister as saturday girl in Woolworths - gives walking down the asile a different feel. Yes it was a long while ago, over 50 years now.

In his family grocery shop. I was seventeen, he was eighteen, and I was the new shop assistant. They don't own the shop anymore, but the premises are still there, in Carlisle

We met in a folk dance club in Stockwell (which no longer exists), but he'd seen me the night before at Cecil Sharp House in London, and I know that's still going. And it will be 41 years ago this February!

The first time we met was in Reece's Ballroom where john and Cynthia had their wedding reception. He says he doesn't remember. We were 14. The second time was at the students Union Friday hop fifty years ago.

I bet nobody can top this ....
We met in the Admissions hall in the local Psychiatric hospital .

We started on the same day as student cadet nurses , it is strange but I remember every detail of that first meeting 48 years later . I didn`t fancy him but thought he was very unusual and funny . We were married 2 years later , had 3 kids then sadly his wandering eyes caused us to break up 13 years later .

Both doing temp work at the then Electricity Board offices before going to Uni. Didn't speak then, just eyed each other meaningfully. We were very surprised to meet each other as students at the same Uni.

The Electricity Board offices have long since been demolished so no chance of a wedding there.

At lunch time in the staff canteen at the less imposing back end of Shoreditch Town Hall C1972 . Now an arts venue.

My sister and her DH met in a psychiatric hospital too, f77ms. They were both patients at the time.

The Top Rank Suite near the Clock Tower in Leicester. It was my firm's Christmas party and he had come with his brother who worked for the same company. Our first dance was the Gay Gordons. The building is still there but quite run down.

In a pub in Lambeth, accidentally knocked a pint of beer over him. We were married 42 years when he sadly died.

I was a student teacher in a Sixth Form College where he was already teaching. I needed some support as the school was in a rough area.

DH has queried whether we met at the sailing club, says it could have been in the university refectory where the sailing club people used to meet for lunch.

The problem is we do not remember our first meeting as, although we met at university, ours was not a university romance, we didn't start dating until 3 years after we graduated, some 6 years after we met.

Galen Thu 21-Jan-16 17:44:12

At a hop at Birmingham university. He'd just qualified at Bristol university and was celebrating.

We had a dance and talked. He found I'd done some sailing and asked me to crew for him the next day.

I crewed for him from then until he died.

Galen Thu 21-Jan-16 17:46:43

Lovely post Galen.

In my post I said that I didn`t know if the Carlton in Rochdale was still there, I Googled it and found that demolition is to begin next month. End of several eras.

Nelliemoser Thu 21-Jan-16 18:56:19

Kittylester As long as the iconic Leicester Clock Tower is not getting run down.

Liaise Thu 21-Jan-16 19:35:37

Dh and I met in 1958 at a Halloween party on a farm in Wales. I was 15. My father collected me and my friend and he went home with somebody else. I can remember dancing at the city hall in Cardiff, Bindles in Barry and the pavilion in Porthcawl and eventually when dh and I were going out , (he worked in Birmingham), at the the Lacarno.

We married in 1965 and 20 houses later, mostly married quarters, and two children we are wondering where the years went. It certainly is the end of an era Numberplease.
