What is everyone doing for New Years?

We usually don't do anything but our neighbours have invited us around for dinner and as we don't have to drive (or get a prohibitively expensive taxi) we thought we'd throw caution to the wind and 'go out'. Now we just have to make sure we're able to stay awake till 12!

Another who won't be bothering; we've got a bottle of Cava chilling in the fridge and will be drinking that sometime this evening, but will probably be in bed between 9 and 10 (do a paper round every morning, so have to be up by 7 and need every minute of my beauty sleep)!smile.

Happy new year!

We are not usually that worried about going out on NYE as we have to decide which of us will be the dedicated driver, and it's usually me! We have been invited round for a meal at some really good friends this evening, and it's within walking distance, that's a bonus!. Happy New Year to you all, and let's hope it can be a peaceful one!

I was beginning to think Gransnet was a site for party poopers! Until I read Penstemmon's entry and some others that followed. I love NYE and this is the first time since I was in my early teens (over 50 years) that I have not been able to celebrate - I am laid up with a horrible lurgy. It has always been a mixture of old friends, new friends, different locations/countries but always a breeze. Can't wait for next Year's NYE.

Happy New Year everyone who celebrates, with think of you all partying while DH and I quietly share a chicken and a bottle of bubbles.

we have a couple of friends coming round for dinner. I'm doing main course and they are doing starter and pudding. We will probably eat too much (again) maybe have a game of cards . We used to have great parties with 20 or more people all bringing a plate of goodies and played lots of silly games. Too much effort nowadays and too tired by 10ish .

Take away curry and bottle of plonk in front of telly. Just had a wonderful time with DD1 and GCs then DD2 and BF- and now back in our apartment. Can't go out due to old doggie- and that is absolutely fine.

Cracking open a bottle of fiz and watching Jules Holland with OH as usual...if I stay awake! Lol!

rosequartz Thu 31-Dec-15 15:26:47

We used to party, go away, have friends over etc, but these days are quite happy with the two of us, a nice meal and a bottle of bubbly. I will probably nod off at about 9.45 and wake up ready to see in the NY and stay up for the phone calls from the DC!

Happy New Year everyone!!

joannapiano Thu 31-Dec-15 15:42:10

DH and I have just waved goodbye to 5 DGC and their Mums. We all walked to McDonalds for lunch, as I have now run out of food.
Will sit in front of the fire with the cat and rabbit this evening, then bed as usual at 10pm.

TTTA2015 Thu 31-Dec-15 15:50:51

Will also be watching Jules Holland with bottle of fiz and last of mince pies, DH is working the night shift looking after all the 'naughty boys' BUT this will be the last year as he retires in February 2016 - can't wait. I wish you all a very happy, healthy New Year.

rosequartz Thu 31-Dec-15 15:52:05

and we will be avoiding Jules Holland (is it just us who find him talented but supremely irritating?)

annodomini Thu 31-Dec-15 15:57:50

You are not alone, rq. tchsmile

Ana Thu 31-Dec-15 16:02:33

I was thinking the same, rose. His voice gets on my nerves, for a start...

rosequartz Thu 31-Dec-15 16:08:00

Yes, it's his voice .....
and the same shirt (does it come out every NYE which is filmed in about August?)

J52 Thu 31-Dec-15 16:13:11

We will put Jules on for the countdown and then probably watch the rest.

Took the partridge breasts out of fridge to check, one smelt very 'gamey', chucked it out and sent DH to get more. Good old Waitrose to the rescue. Also have standby chicken, in case it is all a disaster!

Good wishes to everyone for 2016 . Enjoy your evening, in or out, with friends or on your own, quiet or noisy... may the new year be a good one for you wine

We are going out for a meal in Kew with a group of about 12. We were going to go to Kew Gardens first as they put on a very nice winter wonderland light display Christmas time through to New Year which we went to last year, but as we have coughs at the moment so decided against it. Son and girlfriend are staying at ours and are cooking a Thai meal and then going out with a group of their friends but promise they aren't going to overdo it this year so they can actually get up and have a smoked salmon and scrambled egg breakfast with us tomorrow. We'll see!

KatyK Thu 31-Dec-15 16:38:42

Can I join the moaners please? I hate New Year's Eve, not sure why but I find it depressing. We used to go to parties years ago but now it seems to be just the two of us staying in. We are however meeting up with the family for a pub lunch tomorrow, so that will be nice. I hope you all enjoy whatever you do tonight.

hildajenniJ Thu 31-Dec-15 16:53:05

I am watching old movies until my husband comes back from work with the take away. Then we will see in the New Year, and go straight to bed.

annsixty Thu 31-Dec-15 17:00:36

Just posted on Soops thread. We have been given the M&S meal by ex DiL and it looks delicious. The bottle of Shiraz looks inviting too.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 31-Dec-15 18:10:03

We were just intending to sit in the house with a meal and a drink and watch the bells with Jackie Bird, but we've just been invited to a friend's with others of our close friends (some of whom have not been well recently, so it'll be a moderately restrained evening, which is probably good for us all). We're looking forward to it!

Roast lamb for lunch tomorrow, preceded by the NY bubbles.

rosequartz, I'm with you on the "New Years" - it's so American!

Happy New Year, when it comes, to all GNers!!

rubysong Thu 31-Dec-15 18:55:55

I am very much looking forward to watching the panda babies later on TV.

rosequartz Thu 31-Dec-15 18:58:51

As long as the DC are happy .....
