New Year resolutions

Oh I've kept mine religiously for the last few years. Not to make any. Easy.

I've never managed to keep a resolution for longer than a week

Mine is to keep a diary - which I have said every year since I was 12. I usually manage a couple of weeks and that's it. The unused books probably add up to a small rain forest

I love the jar of happy memories idea. I know of a family who have a shared jar and they open it up every New Year's Eve to share the memories. Now I love that idea, but my husband - blokey bloke that he is - would not so it won't work for my family

Just before Christmas I went to a Royal Opera House cinema screening of Opera Cavalleria-rusticana and Pagliacci. Both good stories of love and passion, nothing, mythological or such. I really enjoyed it.

I really must get notifications of the next ones coming my way.

My local cinema has times when people can go to see a film on their own but meet up with like minded people and then discuss the film afterwards. I sometimes go to see a film on my own if the S.O. isn't keen on seeing it and have been to the ballet alone before now. It's never bothered me seeing a production alone; what I used to miss was discussing it with people afterwards but, thanks to the internet, I can now do that.

oooh, that's a good idea! I'd love to go to the theatre, and we have a good local one. I may look into that as well. Well done for taking the step to book it Luckygirl.

I've just acted on my resolution. I have booked into 4 live feed events at the local theatre: 3 operas (one with Bryn Terfel!) and one ballet. I will have to go on my own, but I will bite the bullet. I have to break out from the anxiety state that my OH is in as I cannot go on living his anxious life any more. I feel a heel, but I am sure it is for the best in the long term.

Gloucestershire. Last note I see about a meetup is from June though.

Where are you?

I'm happy to get to know anyone that is local to me on gransnet. I have a couple close friends from childhood, but I never ever see them anymore as they are in the US, and I am here. I can't go there, and they can't come here due to their own families and responsibilities, which I fully understand. I'd like to develop friendships here.

I think I've allowed myself to become quite isolated, and I need to get past that and just forge ahead, I guess. I'm not naturally one of those that just "puts myself out there" so it's very much out of my comfort zone.

If there is a meet up locally to me, I'll happily arrange respite so I can go.

Well, that would have made you fit in quite well with everyone. I was thinking about friendship the other day, having had one of my oldest friends visit over Christmas [the sort of friend that you don't see for 10 years but it's as if you only saw each other yesterday], and started thinking how lucky I was to have the friends that I do have, and I'd say 50% of those are people I've met through gransnet. What I must do is make more of an effort to visit people, although I say this every year.

I went to one quite a while ago, but had a big mess come up with ds1's school that interrupted it for me and stressed me out quite a bit, and probably made everyone think I was a loon. lol

Are you near to any gransnet meet ups heaven?

tired I'm going to a couple local coffee mornings, to start with. And I'm thinking about looking into a local club of some sort - some type of interest group. I've not decided what yet though.

I think I need to get out more and make new friends. I'm very isolated due to circumstances, and finally have a window to get out and meet people a bit, so am determined to take the opportunity. I also sadly am going to resolve to stop trying with two friends, as it's like flogging a dead horse and quite frankly I'm tired of it. I'll just move on and find people that want to be friends instead.

I love the idea of a happiness jar - I think I'll start one! I could do with it at the moment, as I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself. I would love to make a resolution to exercise more, but arthritis is making increasingly immobile.

Maybe I'll have my feet replaced with wheels, and have a small but powerful motor fitted to my bum. (just watching Iron Man - it's given me ideas above my station!

Hello! I'm new...to being a granny (8 months and loving it) and to Gransnet. So, apart from posting on Gransnet (tick!), my New Year resolutions are to...

1) Procrastinate less
2) Enjoy life more.

I love the idea of the 'happiness' jar too (thanks Harrysgran) - might give that one a go as well.
