Afrer reading another thread that mentions Bargain Hunt the TV programme , I just wondered if any GNers had appeared on TV or radio programmes past or present or had been that.'person' waving behind the news reportergrin

Well, numberplease, I love a good quiz, but you and Elrel are out of my league!

I made it to the local papers, and from there to the Sun and Mail, when I won World Cup final tickets in Paris in 1998 by estimating how many Wotsits would fit in a football. I estimated by cutting a ball up and filling one half with them grin. I aloe sort of made the Guardian when they reported on the first national Rummikub championships that I took part in. Not by name though, as I only came sixth. smile

Maggiemaybe Thu 31-Dec-15 23:55:49

aloe? also!

Elrel Fri 01-Jan-16 01:26:03

Maggiemaybe - there's a lot of luck in quizzes! So far we've got 3 of the 5 needed and I think we may need one or two reserves. I've just checked Rummikub, don't think I've heard of it before! Well done with the Wotsits!!

Wow what a clever, interesting, glitzy lot GNers are!
Not had any bit of fame.
DS when he was about 10yrs old had short clip of him on Pebble Mill at One. We were in Wales watching a sheep dog trial. When someone from the film crew asked if my son would like to have a go rounding up some sheep using a special whistle to call A very clever sheep dog.
Afterwards he was given a little woolly sheep for his efforts, he promptly asked for one for his wee sister. Happily they had another one that they kindly gave to his DS.
We didn't know when the programme would show the event and as it was on in the daytime, we had to video and watch every episode till it was shown weeks later!

At 16 in 1967 - the 'star' of a short film by a Swiss group of young film makers (two of whom are still famous and active in film circles) ... very popular at the 67 Swiss film festival. And twice on Question Time.

I was on Bargain Hunt in 2009. My friend and I were the red team and had the lovely Anita Manning as our expert. We won by making a profit of £4!

GrannyAsNanny Fri 01-Jan-16 15:56:41

Numberplease - I'd be happy to join you on Eggheads, if you don't mind my several areas of ignorance...

Elrel Fri 01-Jan-16 16:40:10

GrannyAN - this really has begun to take off, so far four of us are definitely interested in putting together a team.

GrannyAsNanny Fri 01-Jan-16 16:55:02

Let's make it happen Elrel - our new year's resolution!

Cherrytree59 Fri 01-Jan-16 17:29:17

That's sounds brill future eggheads.
I think you will have to recruit a reserve Candidate also.

Elrel Fri 01-Jan-16 18:22:24

Cherrytree - as you say, we need 6 to include a reserve.

Elrel Fri 01-Jan-16 19:22:27

Nooo!! Applications for 2017 Eggheads closed on 16th December.
Still good to know we've enough interest to get a team together.

I tend to avoid the limelight which is probably just as well as the only time I appeared on a TV news item was on Preston Station for a Charity fund raising event with a group of pupils. Who was the celebrity? Stuart Hall, I am now sorry to say. My DS's appeared on a similar item at another local event, with the weather man Fred Talbot. My stomach now turns when I think of them - little did we know!

Maggiemaybe Sat 02-Jan-16 09:04:01

Ah well, Elrel, chin up. At least we have plenty of time to swot and to perfect our on-screen personae if we're aiming for 2018! grin

petallus Sat 02-Jan-16 12:34:27

I was on itv news some years ago, being shown walking through some bluebell woods with a friend who was doing research on bluebell theft.

More recently I was in Private Eye but only as a cartoon character.

petallus Sat 02-Jan-16 12:35:56

I'd like to be on the Eggheads team but I'm no good at general knowledge and my brain is a bit slow at pulling things out of the filing system these days so perhaps not!

Good idea though.

More recently I was in Private Eye but only as a cartoon character.

How intriguing!

Elrel - Only Connect are still looking for teams, or do you think that might be a bit beyond us?!

annodomini Sat 02-Jan-16 13:33:08

Was spotted on TV by my sister when I was at a party conference, making a speech that still makes me blush all over when I think about it. I hoped no-one else had recognised me.

I was on You and Yours many years ago on the subject of glasses for children; and I have been on local radio several times in relation to singing. The last time the idiot interviewer, who was supposed to be talking about how choirs and singing help people to make friends, simply wanted to know if any couples had become lovers from my singing group. He kind of missed the point o0f the value of singing socially.

OH was once filmed examining an ankle on a programme about rheumatology - he was supposed to be aspirating fluid from it, but it made the cameraman feel faint, so they scrapped the needle! In the end his bit was so short that if you had blinked you would have missed it!

Elrel Sat 02-Jan-16 14:25:12

GrannyAsNanny - worth a try, why not?! I usually watch Only Connect with awe, though very occasionally I get a connection or a Wall line that the teams don't.
Maggiemaybe - indeed - something to aim for!!

OK - do we have takers for Only Connect with Victoria Coren?!

Cherrytree59 Sat 02-Jan-16 15:30:39

Yes I think you should try for Only connect.
Perhaps other GNers could be in the audiance cheering you on!grin

Alea Sat 02-Jan-16 15:45:40

DD aged about 7 blew up a bridge on the M5 as part of the motorway widening. I found that very exciting!!

GrannyAsNanny Sat 02-Jan-16 15:49:49

Elrel - shall we go for it? No doubt the powers that be will politely let us know if we're not up to it! Will you do the organising? At least we only need a team of 3 rather than 5!

Penstemmon Sat 02-Jan-16 15:50:13

Never had 15 seconds of fame never mind 15 minutes! grin
