An elderly aunt insists that it is ShrOWEsbury, but my brother, who lives near the town says it is ShrOOsbury. Interested to hear your opinions.

I heard that it different depending which side of the welsh border, if you are English side you call it 'owe' and if welsh 'ew'. I know people in shrewsbury and they all say it the second way.

I've sorted out the Gillingham, Jillingham thing in my head.

Gillingham in Kent is pronounced Jillingham.

The locals in Dorset say Gillingham.

Think that's sorted now smile

For Mousehole we say Mowzle.

We visited quite regularly when I was young and always heard that it was -owe-.
