This is awful, phoenix. I can't for the life of me think of a recent (I'm assuming it was recent) thread that would be worthy of such a spiteful act.

If it was a deleted thread then a lot of us will have posted on it so why on earth were you singled out?

I remember you posting a link to the website of the place where you work but a website is in the public domain so nothing wrong with that apart from the fact it gave away your contact details.

We're all going to have to be a lot more careful from now on.

You only showed concern for your boss if It's the thread I'm thinking of. You didn't say anything horrible. So there shouldn't be any repercussions.

Someone must be in a very bad place themself to actually do that. Sad really.

Words fail me phoenix if some malicious b**ch wanted to get you fired. Usually if people want to be nasty they send a very rude PM but at least that person can be traced with the help of GNHQ. This method is something else.

It was a deleted thread, printed and sent to my employer. I can only think that the reason behind it was that the "person" (to be polite) was hoping that it might result in my losing my job. As I've said before, "nice"!

Yes, Charleygirl there is a postmark which shows the city from where it was posted.

We do have to be very careful as to what we post when situations that are easily identifiable are published on open forums. I am making the assumption that that is what has happened here.

What a pity Phoenix- what a shock if someone put an anonymous note in your post box?!? I had one bad experience on a Forum, when someone from a very specific organisation (with a funny handshake) - didn't like my comments about said organisation. Next time we went to where we used to live- friends straightaway asked what was happening? He had phoned one of his 'colleagues' in our town to ask who I was- he had my nationality and the fact I was a mod langs teacher and the profession of my OH- it took him 3 seconds to find out who I was (and that I was right). I should have made an official complaint- but he banned me so I could not correspond with other mods. I should have found another way- but I was too shaken.

Lesson learnt. Stay safe all- I've said many times before people should be careful about discussing intimate and difficult problems on GN.

I think rosequartz has a good point, in that a GN thread may come up if someone's googling for something, which could be a subject, a product or service or even a name.

Sorry, phoenix, I had assumed it was you yourself who'd received the anonymous missive because of something you posted on another thread.

When I think about it there is information on here which could potentially identify quite a few GNetters to someone determined to cause trouble. We should all be aware of this I'm afraid...

I must say that both myself and GNHQ were pretty gobsmacked (to use the vernacular), but it would appear that there is someone out there who is spiteful and malicious!

The anonymity of GN is important so that we can say whatever we think without worrying. Please don't let someone's meanness put you off Phoenix, we need your input.
