I think you missed the subtlety jbf - what the quote is saying is that, faced with violence, we have to maintain culture and civilization and hold true to those values that make us a decent nation. Tricia - yes, I thought the band playing in Paris was a bit unfortunate, especially its name, which does not exactly represent the best in Western culture - but at least they are allowed to play, and there is no censorship, however grim they might be.
