They are a heavy metal band. No mystery, a typical heavy metal band name and typical heavy metal sound. Very popular, all over Europe, especially with the young.

I think jings (tongue in cheek) post was in response to ridiculous statement "all members of the band survived" as though they had no damned right to survive when it was "their" concert after all.

Sad as it is, no amount of music, beautiful or otherwise will stop these murdering b*st*rds !

There are those who say we can do nothing to halt the activities of these dreadful people, but there'd be something, or there will be no music, no culture and no civilisation.

There are clearly some people with some much hate in their heart (do they have a heart in that sense?) who have no values and no love, either for themselves or their families. Do they love their mothers?, fathers? Children or siblings? I doubt it very much. My DH said that maybe they have a chemical imbalance in their brain that removes their "feelings" that enables them to do what they do. I used to poo poo that idea but have started to wonder myself. There has to be something seriously wrong with someone who can do what they do with no thought for even themselves.

LuckyGirl sadly no, I wasn't there. I only found out about it when it was looking at the BBC Coventry & Warwickshire news website. There was a live link to what was happening. I was slow to make the connection with the date this year.

The three attacks were chosen because they represent Western decadence. People were doing things for pleasure - watching sport, listening to music and drinking alcohol (and eating). Mixed sexes too. All for pleasure, so many things that do not sit with the extreme beliefs of IS members. I didn't know the band survived. That's some good news.

I suspect most IS members are estranged from their families.

Music and culture are wonderful things, but of course will not halt anyone who plans violence, as to these people not loving or liking anyone that is nonsense, Hitler loved his alsation Blondie and his mistress Eva Braun as well as thinking Wagner's music was superb.They simply do not care what happens to anyone outside their own circle.

I don't think we realise how good our intelligence services are, it must be so difficult keeping tabs on everyone, and working out where the next outrage may come from.

The intelligence services are the key to it all.

Can I please correct a few earlier posters. The Eagles of Death Metal are a rock band with many different styles due to the ever changing band members. The name is a tongue in cheek one.
One of the tracks on their latest album is Duran Duran's Save a Prayer, definitely not Heavy Metal.

Who do we declare war on? Didn't we try that in Afghanistan and Iraq? Now those wars are blamed for bringing us to where we are today.

If we go to war how do we ensure that we only kill the people we want to kill. If we kill indiscriminately how would we then differ from the terrorists?

You can't declare a conventional war on terrorists because they don't fight a conventional war. Once innocents in the area start dying you push others into the terror groups to take revenge for the one's they've lost.

I'm not offering any solutions but pointing out the problems of the going to war scenario.

We've tried it many times before. It has never worked.

Afghanistan and Iraq are recognised countries, with representation in the UN. We shouldn't have invaded Iraq, that was illegal. Did we invade Afghanistan or were we invited in? I don't remember.

So called Islamic State is no such thing and is an invading force. They are quite visible, not guerillas, they have armies and weapons and move about the areas they have invaded.

The people whose countries, lives, cultures and religions are threatened know who the are and where they are. It's not some invisible enemy.
