Two more achingly sad but beautiful songs that I have just listened to again on You Tube. Passing Strangers by Billy Eckstine and Sarah Vaughn and You Don't Bring Me Flowers by Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond.

We are going to see Mack and Mabel in a couple of weeks daffy. I love Howard Keel's version of that as well as your choice.

I think Sometimes When We Touch is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Have just found this thread/discussion. Yes, songs and music can bring on the tears and now I let this happen. I no longer care if people see me getting in touch with my feelings. Music is a very potent trigger for the emotions, whether they be good or bad, but it's no shame to let them show because we show our humanity along with them.

The choir I sing with learned "Someone like you" and we were encouraged to connect with our feelings of love lost in order to perform it more convincingly. At first I couldn't sing it without blubbing, tears streaming down my face. But once I'd done this a few times & I could sing through the tears, they went away, leaving the emotional connection in place.

The song that really gets to me even now if it's played on the radio is "Clare" by Gilbert O'Sullivan. This was the name of my baby who lived for 9 days before we lost her, and 40 years on, this song still hits me hard.

Oh my goodness! All the songs mentioned have made me a blithering wreck...... some for personal reasons, some just because they are so beautiful! I find I can cry quite easily when beautiful music is played, so mostly it's 'happy' crying if that makes sense. But thanks to Katek with regards to the Pearl Fishers Duet..... so beautiful.

Benedictus - from Karl Jenkins Mass for Peace, we went to a concert last night.

The Parting Glass always made me weep.

This year I learnt it was about leaving when friends were asleep, insensible etc., but not dead.

The High Kings perform it beautifully. Love the harmonies.

Apologies to any Scottish gransnet and grandads, but I absolutely hate bagpipes, but one tune that never fails to bring tears to my eyes is Flowers of the Forest - played on the pipes. Can't stand listening to any other pipe music but that one.

Old songs do it for me rather than modern ones a lot of the time

One of my weak spots is for I'll Be Seeing You (Irving Kahal/Sammy Fain)- ever since I listened to the damn words (as a musician I was, I'm sorry to say, prone to giving the music all my attention). Although it appeared in 1938, it was the realisation of what it meant to so many people in wartime that undid me... taken in that light it is a very brave song indeed...
