Bitchin' or Banter?

I have "lurked" on Gransnet for a while and I am astonished at the amount of bitching going on here mainly amongst the usual crew of regular posters. Or is is just banter? I realise that political threads can get heated but even the lighter subjects often become littered with rude and sometimes very nasty comments. Or am I just too sensitive? Maybe this the norm on forums, even those for the more mature. I am new to this so don't know.

Yes. Welcome. But be warned. Once you enter the portals of these slightly dusty and unswept halls, you will, sooner or later, lose all faith in human nature....

Lona I am on your side. I have closed more threads than I like to contemplate.

I think that Gransnet is a forum where a person can be themselves without worrying about whether they write the politically correct thing or not.
Most of us have grown up at a time when it wasn't frowned on to give an honest opinion, even if it might hurt another person's (over)- sensitive feelings.

We did discuss 'ignoring' as a tactic before. I mentionned a book I had read recently about early man and Néanderthal- The Bear Clan- about how totally ignoring someone who had transgressed severely in the eyes of the clan would just be totally cut out by being ignored. The whole clan went about their life just as if the person had disappeared or died. Which in realy life is actually a massively hard punishment- and a well-known form nowadays of cyber-bullying- on par with derision and rubbishing without any explanation. You do live and learn and make choices.

It's the accents that make your posts scary, phoenix grin

One of DD2's favourite books when she was a child was about a girl called Ramona. I seem to recall that Ramona was quite a character.
