Unbelievable! Did you film it crun?

It looks as if this poor man is not very confident about reversing - and I have a certain sympathy with that as I could not honestly describe it as my forte - I have to do it a lot round here as we have mainly single track lanes!

Why the younger woman could not have the grace to help him out by reversing I cannot imagine - but maybe that is how open-top car drivers behave. (ducks in case any Gransnetters drive such cars!)

Maybe they should both get smaller cars.

Obviously he should have priority as he is OLD (and rich & privileged) and obviously she should have priority as she is a LADY (and rich and privileged).

Once witnessed a similar standoff between a Mini and a tractor and trailer. Situation resolved when a bunch of farm hands CARRIED the Mini through the field and deposited it back on the track behind the tractor.

Errrm, I drive a (very old) Mercedes convertible!

I knew I was going to be in trouble!!

Similar happened to me but I had right of way. The fellow was in a top of the range Range Rover and was calling me all of the racist names in the book. I was in a Nissan Micra and decided that it would be an easier life for everybody if I reversed back a fair distance.

The old chap was much further in to the tunnel. The woman should have given way as she saw him coming.

Happens around here a lot. Though not for as long. 5 minutes is average.

It's actually a small one, only 2 seater!

Now, my turn to put my head above the parapet. The woman had right of way, and the gentleman's reason for not reversing because he was afraid of having an accident was (IMO) flawed on 2 counts, firstly, with that number of people around, someone could have seen him back safely, secondly, even if you are not particularly fond of reversing, you should be able to do it when needed.

Did she have right of way?

This was in the press earlier in the week. If I remember rightly she did have R.O.W.

DD3 lives near this tunnel and I have driven through it a number of times. Although he should have been able to reverse it would have been far easier for her to do so as he would have had to reverse round a difficult corner and she just had to go straight backwards. Pathetic on both counts. Maidenhead is a nightmare at present with roadworks and traffic lights supposedly controlling the one way systems. I am amazed at the selfish drivers in this area behind the wheels of their Chelsea tractors, mercs and BMWs

He was a rubbish reverser unless he was kidding. They didnt even have to reverse far though he had big trouble.

I pride myself on NOT being a selfish driver, often letting people in to join traffic, or standing back to let others turn right etc.

I do it in the hope that others will do the same, a bit like letting someone go ahead of me in the supermarket if they only have a few items.

I look on it as karma. If I let someone in front of me or similar then maybe I'll find a space when I need to park. What goes around comes around!

Why didn't they just call the police?

It's all narrow lanes and high banks where I live and I scarcely ever drive anywhere without reversing. It's no big deal. The more you do it the easier it is. It is also very hilly and the general rule is the car going uphill takes priority. I used to have to go up a hill leaving work and often reversed several times a day for large vehicles or people who didn't seem to be able to do it. It helps to have a small car.
The woman would only have had to go a few feet. Very petty to insist on having right of way and hold up everyone else. (I watched it with no sound as DH is snoozing in his chair, but I assume that's what was happening.)

If he is that worried about reversing maybe he shouldn't be driving at all. Why she couldn't take the high ground and back up thinking " stupid man " is beyond me .

I got one chap very irate because I wouldn't reverse when we met on a narrow country road. He was in a small car and I was driving a pick up truck and had no intention of reversing it round a blind bend. For once size did matter and I won!
