Tomorrow is the day I visit the ladies in the care home. When I return late morning, I shall pop into the kitchen to catch up with our lovely Granspal Kitcheners.

I have been paddling in the sea at Southwold today! DBH decided that although he may not be able to face the noise and fun and crowds of our village fete, he could cope with a quiet Monday jaunt to a very good nursery near the coast, lunch by the sea, and a cup of tea on the way home. We had a lovely day, but I did of course get my trousers wet, even though they were rolled up.

janerowena glad you had a good day with your DH. Depression is a terrible thing both for those suffering it and the ones who love them. I hope his spirits and yours lift.

I hope DH will start to have some energy to be taken out before the winter sets in. At the moment he is just too knackered and having got up late, is still ready for bed by 9!

janer It is good to hear that both you and your husband enjoyed a treat. I think that, given a choice, I would also have opted for a quiet jaunt with all the trimmings. Depression is a hateful illness. Your husband will have benefitted from doing something together that didn't involve a lot of chit-chat.

Alea getting back to normal after such a trauma as the one that befell your husband takes time...and a whole lot of patience. I'm certain that he has the best possible nurse all to himself. One day at a time...

I've been with the Care Home ladies. One used to service Beaufighter aircraft during the war years. It is the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain today. I shall try to find some info' that I can print to show her when I visit next week.

I wonder if Galen will be booking the QE world trip next year. The Princess Grill which I believe she favours comes in at about £39000 and the owners suite is a snip at something around £140000 mind you it does include "tips". Any other takers? It is 4 months long.

No, I'm going on royal princess with Bella in an owner's suite next year. Followed by Xmas and new year on the Queen VictorIa ( grills of course!)

I'm trying to paint another pet portrait. Elvis singing a song that I used to jive to has found it's way on to Facebook. I have been reinvigorated. Bobbing around my so-called studio and beating time with my paintbrush.

I jived at my niece's wedding - I was quite shocked that I coped, because it was with the young, tall and handsome fiancé of my other niece! He has danced all his life, and it showed. I was expecting to be whirled around his head at any moment. He said it was my niece's only failing, that she didn't dance.

I had the oddest dream last night. I was at a banquet with my DGS (aged 10) and he was eating his dinner - I didn't have any dinner but it didn't seem to matter (weird things dreams!). I asked him what he was eating and he said "Roast seagull" so I asked him what it tasted like and he said "Fishy goose"! Which might be just what roast seagull would taste like!

Anyone ever tried it?

janer I persuaded MacSporran to attempt a jive around our wee room. He said at one point...would you like me to lift you over my head? I said...not with my hernia! I have enjoyed an hour of listening to Elvis. What I'd have given to have seen him performing live. Wow! I'm certain that I would have wet my knickers with excitement. Apparently that used to happen. Oh my...should I ever go into a care home I do hope that my Elvis records can accompany me. He has the power to wipe the years away...

Gaga That was some weird dream. I seem to spend an awful lot of dream-time climbing over towering obstacles: never ending staircases, narrow openings through dark tunnels, long roads that I eye-high in frozen snow...all very trying.

Yes fibromyalgia is a bore. I'm lucky to have found a medication that mostly controls the pain (although with its own side effects) but the lack of energy can be so unpredictable.

Glad you are back with us Galen. I'm not a good sailor. I have horrific memories of just crossing the Channel once.
that's the colour I was. Don't think I could cope with a cruise.

Soop, lovely to come across another Elvis devotee, there don`t seem a lot of them around lately. Did you ever see his comeback concert in 1968, when he was sitting there, with a few girls around him, he was dressed in black leather, looked good enough to eat! I drool at the memory!!
Galen, nice to see you safely back. My hubby wants to go on a cruise, but I don`t think we can afford it, unless we travel at the wrong time, which wouldn`t be as good.

The husband of one of my oldest friends (we first met when we were 17/18 on a pre-St Andrews weekend for pupils from Borders schools at Carberry Towers outside Edinburgh) rang me on Sunday night to tell me she had had 2 minor strokes at the weekend.
Curiously found this more shocking than DH 's stroke last week, perhaps because when you are on the spot, you deal with realities instead of letting your imagination run away.

On the plus side, apart from being very tired (off to bed by 9) DH is more like himself today. I pretended not to notice he was tired at lunch time and took him to his Philosophy class ("my brain hurts!") this afternoon!!! He he!

number Yes, I have the "Elvis Comeback" on video. He was utterly captivating. In spite of all those who try to impersonate Elvis...there can be no one to equal him and his raw talent. I was out shopping in Fareham, with my youngest son in a pushchair, when I heard the news that Elvis had died. I remember feeling so sad and returned home with an empty shopping basket..

dustyangel may I ask which medication you take for FM? I feel utterly "washed out" some days. However, it is not a terminal illness, more an irritatingly debilitating condition.

Charleygirl My goodness how I danced when I was young. I would happily queue for a very long time to enjoy an evening of high-energy rock 'n' roll. Happy days!

Alea Did your friend realise before the stroke that something was amiss? Is she in hospital? I am happy to hear that your husband is making a steady recovery.

Another huge Elvis fan here! What a voice he had. He could sing any genre and make it special. The late dowager Duchess of Devonshire loved him too and even had a life-size cardboard cut-out of him in her home!

I absolutely adored him when I was a teenager and had a big picture of him on the wall next to my bed. I kissed him goodnight every night and was heartbroken to come home from school one day and find my parents had decided to re-wallpaper my bedroom and Elvis had gone in the rubbish. I never forgave my Dad for that!

Actually, in my early teens I wasn`t all that enamoured of Elvis, I was more for the homegrown ones, i.e.Cliff, Billy Fury, Marty Wilde, etc., then when I was 18, I went with a friend to see Blue Hawaii, and fell in love! When I met my husband, he hated me liking pop stars so much, he scraped a Cliff single with a red hot poker, and threw my Blue Hawaii LP on the fire!
