I've been sat on my backside most of the morning reading the paper (which says a brisk walk every day adds 7 years to your life) and posting on GN..

Had a lovely long bath, watched 'Wanted Down Under' (seen it before, but at least I saw some sun) glanced at GN, glanced at the paper which said about the brisk walk, looked out at the rain so didn't go for a walk (too hilly here), tidied up paperwork which means shifting it from one place to another (it looks worse now!) and then went on the pc to do some family history. Decided I don't like the new Ancestry format, swore a bit at it and gave up.

We may have some nice warm soup (it's quite chilly today).

Ooh jingl I might make a crumble too. I found a bag of blackcurrants (from last year ) in our overflow freezer in the garage the other day, and I've got lots of apples on the tree.

And no, Ann, you're not alone. I've been having a total slob day today. OK, so my baby GD kept me awake most of the night on her first sleepover without mummy. (But what excuse do I have on other days? )

So, erm, that crumble might have to wait till tomorrow. Not entirely sure I'd be able to stand up in the kitchen long enough to do it.

I love the Frith photos and have looked at their website before - even found one of the cottage where my great-grandmother used to live in Oxfordshire; also the very old swimming baths (now demolished) where I learnt to swim.
If I sat and thought about it I could even import them into my family history.
Perhaps not today though.
It's surprising what you find when you idly surf the web - I even found a photo taken in the classroom of me and others when we were 5!

I have made and eaten potato and leek soup, also made a batch of sticky toffee cakes to take to DGSs.
Took a walk in the rain first thing, after a long bath, and will probably go out again this afternoon, then shorten a dress for DD1.
I can't stand being idle.

I can while away many happy hours being idle. The trick is ann, to be positively idle!
I've had a small lie-in (8.20) read some of the Sunday papers, put the towels to wash, played solitaire, browsed fb and gn, folded some clean bedding, eaten Ryvitas and now it's time.
Nothing strenuous but enough to feel I deserve a lazy afternoon!

I can empathise with you ann. I have health problems which make it impossible to go out alone. Husband only drives very short distances so a trip to the local shops is about it. Two of my children are local and are extremely good but they work full time so I keep them for essential journeys.
My problem is that I don't really feel part of society any more. No days out, no holidays, not even browsing round the library, every day seems the same.
Goodness I do sound an old moaner and I try not to be negative with the family but it is allowed on Gn where we can have a good moan without being a nuisance to anybody.

I think it's the insult of having an autumn day in August*Ann*! I'm usual quite positive but I'm finding it a struggle. I've sorted out all the bits from the 11 babushkas that DGC take apart and abandon! We are only missing 3 halves! Now I'm sorting recipes - I do lead a very interesting life!

Granted, I had to go to work this morning, but only for two hours. Since getting home at 08.00 I have checked my emails, Facebook, Gnet and played a couple of games of "dropwords". I put away yesterday's ironing and made lunch. Not very taxing. No-one to talk to except the dog as DH went for another sleep after work. I might do some more ironing later, but not just now. I think we are all quite similar really ann.

Gruesome day here too - I've cleaned the oven and DH has descaled the showers. I shall watch something on Netflix and eat skinny popcorn this afternoon.

In an attempt at being more physically active I went to an Aquafit class. Now I'm too knackered to do anything more that play around on the internet and I plan to slump in front of TV with cherry cake shortly. Fitness own goal?

No ann it's definitely not just you. I think there shouid be a law banning wet bank holidays. I tried to have a lie in, but was awakened by an early phone call. Emptied the dishwasher. Starting sorting out clothes for my imminent holiday and then went into panic mode as all I seem to have is a scruffy old collection of ill fitting garments. Then drove into Stockport and bought 2 pairs of trousers cheaply from Gap outlet. Couldn't face trying to find co-ordinating tops for them so came home and have just collapsed on the sofa. That's it for today.

Hubby bought the full series of Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes and I started watching them last night and I am going to settle down and give them another good airing.

It's nice to be able to watch them again because apart from the fact I understand the story line now I realize how clever the story was.

Can't help to have a quick 'dip' into GN though can you.

Such a boring day here as well. DH wanted to go to B&Q to look at shower cubicles but the thought of being stuck in traffic in driving rain with loads of other people not knowing what to do with themselves put me right off so he retreated to his shed to potter with God knows what.

In the meantime I made some plum jam to go in a Victoria Sponge. The DGSs will be back this evening after a visit to their Dad so they might fancy some cake!! (my excuse)

Looks like an afternoon in front of the telly.

Whilst sitting here this am doing precisely nothing really I remembered it was my friends wedding anniversary to-morrow so had to shoot off to Aldi and buy a couple of bunches of the closed lilies that she loves so much whilst there also bought some extras for the fridge which mr.g insists we do not need either that or buy a larger fridge but I insist it will save me from going again on Wednesday to top up.
I am now back to browsing the posts and catching up with everything before doing a quick and easy salad for tea,oh and I made a strawberry swissroll with excess fruit left from yesterday I have some double cream going begging so that will top it off nicely.

As a teacher, Bank Holidays literally never featured in my thinking as they were always part of a school holiday. I do however feel sorry for the organised BH activities, including DD and SIL's barbecue - as she said, too many people invited to actually fit in the house! So it will be a typically English BH BBQ, golf umbrellas and warm jumpers!

I have done my bit, 15 to lunch and tea yesterday for DGD's FIRST BIRTHDAY!!
So the house was buffed and polished, ironing cleared, bathrooms pristine, everywhere hoovered (and then the DGC arrived!)
I have also taxi'd DD2 to Northampton Theatre this morning for 9 am where she is working on the tech for her new production of Brave New World all this week and I will be picking her up at 10 every night , so I feel perfectly entitled to chill out, slump in front of the TV (what do you mean Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's not on?) and pick at leftovers!
Activities for DGC? Apart from CBeebies, do you remember raindrop races down the windowpane from our childhood? We knew how to make our own entertainment in the good old days!

Thanks for this thread Ann - it made me feel so guilty I donned wet weather gear and took the old Mutt out for a walk.

But he wasn't impressed!

The house now has that delicious pong aroma of wet dog.

We faced a long, depressing, wet Bank Holiday in the house not doing much at all. Then my sister rang and said 'we are going out for a pub lunch, do you fancy coming?' We did fancy going and very nice it was too.

Today I have been mainly using the Karcher to clean the Reception class outdoor area where my DD2 is a teacher! I did it in the persistent drizzle! She , meanwhile , was busy in her class getting the room ready for Thursday after the 'deep clean' which meant everything was in odd places!
Her 2 DDs spent the day at home with their dad. Good old Bank Holidays!!
