When we retired I missed going out for a Christmas meal with work colleagues so I began our own Firm's Christmas Meal (the Firm being DH and I) so I have booked this year's meal in the time honoured tradition of planning ahead at Jamie's Italian Nottingham one Sunday before Xmas (we like lunch) if anyone would like to join us that would be good.

How dare you Teetime you will get a lifetime ban!! A lot of people haven't even had their summer hols yetgrin

Bez Tue 18-Aug-15 16:48:45

That is a lovely idea Teetime pity we are too far away.

Greenfinch Tue 18-Aug-15 16:52:29

What a good idea Teetime.I am wondering if we could adopt this idea for our local Gransnetters. We could go on a weekday if that suited better .I'll sound it out with others.

I couldn't resist google and it looks good with a good GF selection

Great idea, Teetime. Sorry I'm a long way away. Will it be like an office party, with a photocopier and everyone so drunk they daren't go to work next Monday? Oh no, I see it's a nice civilised lunch out!

Tegan Tue 18-Aug-15 19:21:55

I'd love to come along, given that the S.O. and I are complete billynomates at Christmas these days [hope that doesn't put other people off joining in; we're not THAT boring #atleastidon'tthinkthatweare blush].

Shame. Nottingham too far away for this southerner. I note the southerners don't seem to want to do social get togethers. Pity. Could suggest it but don't fancy being Norma No Mates.

You do know that every time someone mentions the C word before December Santa kills a baby reindeer!! smile

If it is my post you are puzzled by Greenfinch I just googled the menu at Jaimie's Italian and I found it very interesting with a good gluten free selection for those who can't take gluten.

sunseeker shock

rosesarered Tue 18-Aug-15 20:19:06

A bit violent sunseeker! I may not sleep tonight.

Greenfinch Tue 18-Aug-15 20:51:52

Thanks annsixty.I've not come across the abbreviation GF before.blush

Bellanonna. How far south are you? We have regular meet-ups in Berkshire.

Bellanonna Tue 18-Aug-15 21:08:48

South of London but I guess Berks would be doable? Always nice to join a meet- up.

Greenfinch Tue 18-Aug-15 21:23:53

We will keep you posted.

Bellanonna Tue 18-Aug-15 21:27:37

Thanks smile

What a lovely idea. Too far away for this south-westerner, sadly sad.

There are quite a few of my ex colleagues who, like me, have left or retired in the last 7 or 8 years and we all meet up for lunch once a month, and then have a Christmas meal in mid December too. The camera club I belong to also arranges a Christmas meal, as does another local photography group.

So all in all, I guess I'm quite lucky, as I don't actually miss the work Christmas do at all smile

granjura Tue 18-Aug-15 21:58:45

What a great idea- and hope you really enjoy it...

but I absolutely and totally refuse to even think about Christmas....

IN AUGUST shock

Katek Tue 18-Aug-15 21:58:52

We have a post panto meal on last night so it's always very lively! Always up for another meal out though!

And, talk of C*******s is forbidden in our house until after the street fair! Although I did buy some of those special cards from a NT shop the other day. I've put them in the blanket box/dh's side table - can someone please remind me!

Teetime Wed 19-Aug-15 08:42:43

Nice responses so far. PS I'm a Southerner in exile in the East Midlands. I think we could have a Gransnet Xmas meal couldn't we. Now I have a Railcard I could come South.

Greenfinch Wed 19-Aug-15 20:46:52

A Gransnet Christmas meal would be great. If we organised something in London or just outside we might possibly get a few takers.

Grannyknot Wed 19-Aug-15 20:59:57

Hi Greenwich smile I'd do my best to attend.
