It's not so much a new discussion but a winge now that we are well into the school holidays. We have nine grandchildren which includes a set of twins (12 years old).Their mother was off to visit inlaws for the weekend but twins wanted to attend an audition so we agreed to look after them for the weekend, and deliver them safely to the audition venue. Compiled a check list for them on Friday evening overnight bags etc and they were due to arrive following their dancing class on Saturday morning.
Izzy arrives first looking stressed, she had forgotten her overnight bag and had also forgotten her house key to retrieve it.
Not to worry we have a key and can collect it later.
Hannah follows shortly after demanding to know why Izzy had not brought her (Hannah's) dance bag back with her. "you said you would, no I didn't, yes you did" etc. Not to worry we could collect it later with the overnight bag. Escaped to the hairdresser for two hours, came home, rounded up twins and searched for the house
key.
Informed by husband that Alex (older brother to twins) had collected house key because he was locked out and had been told to return it asap. Telephoned Alex who was now on the motorway with mother. "Sorry" he bleated several times. Contacted oldest grandchild who was due to join us later for a meal, who informed us that she had received a better offer and was eating elsewhere. Managed to nail her to her front door until we retrieved missing items.
All was well, nice meal, followed by film, followed by bed.
8.30am Sunday morning, twins roused from sleep. 8.50am discovered Hannah plaiting Izzy's hair. Bathroom bypassed, breakfast bypassed. A plaintiff cry could be heard as they exited the house "I've lost a ballet shoe" at which point I buried my head under the duvet.
Delivered to Granny Jean at venue who was supervising a group of friends.
Peace!!! Telephone call received early afternoon, audition over could they go and play at Granny Jean's house. Spoke with Granny Jean, confirmed her address would pick twins up at 6.00pm.
Panic phone call from husband at 6.15pm arrived at Granny Jean, no reply. This confirmed my worst fear, Granny Jean was really a slave trader who had whisked the girls off to God only knows where. However after much banging and bell ringing Grandad Jean staggered to the door, awakened from his Sunday afternoon kip and rescued girls from the garden who had of course left their mobile phones in the house so could not hear the frantic calls.
Twins fed Sunday roastie, packed up and sent off on the five minute walk home with strict instructions to telephone immediately they arrived home. Ha Ha, no call.
The end of a perfect weekend! Have informed DIL it will be at least six months before I recover from the stress of it all and will not be volunteering during this time.
What's wrong with these kids, why can't they get it together?
Advert pop up causing keyboard to disappear.
