House fairy - trivia

I have always had house gremlins - who always put toilet rolls on the holder, the wrong way. My OCD dictates that the paper should hang to the front

Good plan notso but they arrive early morning Thursday so I will have to condense a little just having another coffee, then I should really go up to Mums she hasn't seen anyone for 2 weeks and her patio need weeding if I could only shake myself.

Ease yourself back into it gradually glass . Today should be for reflection and planning, tomorrow for revising your 'to do' lists, Wednesday for rolling up your sleeves and Thursday for spraying a bit of furniture polish just inside the front door.

I could do with a house fairy here this morning, first day back after 2 weeks away working at the house. Luckily the family dont get back until Thursday so I can slowly get back into routine without DGC.

My house fairy has always kept me supplied with a most welcome every morning for the past 40+ years he is a treasure if ever there was one.

Can I ask whether your OH was working or doing hobbies when you needed him years ago Jomarie?

In our house there is a 'pound fairy' who keeps a small bowl full of pound coins. She arrived when DS went to college and needed bus fares every day. However she has remained and provided for DGCs' trips out to the fair, shops, ice cream van etc . Even the milkman benefits from her offerings!

There seem to be a lot of fairies in my house-there's the village hall one who ensures it's all running smoothly, the community association one who takes a lot of stick on a voluntary basis, the Xmas lighting fairy who illuminates the village in one day - not forgetting the panto fairy who sneaks in at the weekend, sprinkles her fairy dust and voila! The scenery just magically appears. She works very closely with the costume fairy. Think she needs a house elf. Oh no, he's taken for Xmas Elf on a Shelf duties!

My OH has sprouted wings since he has been retired and is constantly putting things away for me! and hoovers the downstairs or upstairs (not both on the same day) for me! He will hang out washing on the line - badly - for me. If I turn my back he will be doing something - for me! Usually something I am quite happy and perfectly capable of doing for myself, which is how it has been for 40 odd years. Where was this helpful "fairy" when I needed the help? When I was run ragged with a full time job, three children and a husband who worked and "provided a home" - i.e. job done. Sorry just needed to let off some steam. I mean, in all honesty I can easily run the home now without any help - rewind a few years and I would have given my right arm (if I didn't need it so badly) for a helping hand from him but it wasn't offered - shouldn't feel resentful I know but I just do!!!!

I'm with you luckygirl I too have a male house fairy (DH) who changes the loo roll, takes out the rubbish, stacks the dishwasher, makes a loaf of bread every day, picks up things and puts them away in the right place. Are you jealous GNetters? Sorry you can't have him he's all mine

My fairy king IS the house fairy - he knows if he waited for me to deal with these details he might wait a long time!

Same as POGS here. The Fairy King is learning to do a lot more for himself. About time too.

There seem to be a lot of these House Fairies around. Mine puts things back in cupboards, puts the lids back on things, puts the seat down on the loo .

I also have a Mr Nobody. You know, the person who has done all the things that nobody else in the house owns up to. "Who left the back door open?" "Who used the tea-towel to wipe the muddy paw prints off the floor?" Such questions were commonly met with a chorus of "Not me. I didn't do it" when the DC were at home (DH just as guilty these days )

I think my fairy flew away about 3 years ago.

I really must find the effort to bring her back.

Yes, I have one of those too, she also clears up the crumbs from the worktop after snacks have been made, stacks dirty pots into the dishwasher and moves boots and shoes from across the floor to the shoe rack. Marvellous eh?

No thread is more or less important than another by the way. The site wont run out of room.

And if the jobs aren't done, there are complaints. Even though you apparently dont do anything.
